Beautiful Sunday: by the river,

During the last few days, people have been on alert about sudden flash flood, fallen electricity poles, broken bridges and fallen trees. We have been warned about the strong wind and rain storm hitting the northern provinces and some part of the north-eastern areas. Several places in the north suffered badly from fallen trees and electricity poles with sudden flooding too. Some major roads were washed away by the rain water flowing Disney from the mountains. So, I am very grateful that Nongkhai has escaped from all the serious storm and wind damages. But we did have four days of rain making the dirt road very slippery and muddy.

The river was looking very full and fierce with tons on brownish water rushing quietly down stream to the open sea. On the Laos side, you could see the big pipes for taking water from the river for processing into two water for the whole town. We don’t expect any major flooding along the river this year. In the past, the newly built dam in Laos failed and unleashed tons of water causing untold damages to millions of people. The worst car was when the three smaller dams broke in China almost ten years ago. That caused sudden rise of the river which flood the main road up to almost two meters. Lots of shops and houses were damaged.

Walking along the river just before the rain was very refreshing and calming at the same time. This is the same river I first saw over ten years ago, but it still has the magic to make me wanting to be nearby without being bored by monotonous surrounding. Just me and the river in some kind of quiet discussion about the world and the need to just let go and become quiet for a while.

That river does look angry! I hope it doesn't get any higher!

It's great to see that the river is full of water. A lot of clouds are wonderful. I love to walk along the river, too. It's refreshing and relaxing indeed. ;)

So glad you enjoy the walk by the river. I do hope you and your family could visit Isaan and Nongkhai in the future.
