The lagoon of Balos

The lagoon of Balos is located in the far west of Crete. The journey to the Balos lagoon can either be made by car on a gravel road or by boat from Kissamos. The 4km wide and 12km long peninsula Gramvousa is located directly in the lagoon of Balos. The peninsula is uninhabited and can be reached over a land bridge of about 500m width.
The peninsula of Gramvousa (Korykos) in the west of Crete can be reached from Kissamos about 15 km and a 25 minute walk. At its tip are two small islands. There is a good beach here and the view of the coast is breathtaking.

Turquoise blue sea and light fine sand offer perfect conditions for a wonderful day trip. The water in the lagoon is only about 50 centimetres deep.
