Nioh (PS4) I hate this game but I can't stop playing it

Nioh is without question the most difficult game I have ever played on PS4 or perhaps any system ever. I didn't play Dark Souls because I was warned about its difficulty level and the same is true of Bloodborne. I don't generally enjoy games that are this hard and would prefer to have a more casual gaming experience.

As I mentioned before I died almost immediately when the very first guard in the game that you encounter attacked me, they definitely to NOT take it easy on you in this game nor do they really walk you through the process at all. It is really really hard right from the start and you are going to die a lot

Just when I started thinking i was getting better at the game I'll get attacked by some enemy that I faced a hundred times before and I get my ass handed to me. It's extremely frustrating yet I find myself thinking about the game constantly and when I do play it, I tend to enjoy it... why?

I think it has a lot to do with the high level of customization. There are many weapon types and you can focus on any of them. At the moment i am sticking with Sword but at least I think you can focus on all of them if you want to. Equipping different gear completely changes combat, and the sort of armor you decide to put on dramatically changes your mobility and capabilities in a fight - which i find quite realistic.

So I was thinking that I was actually getting pretty good at this until I made it to the first boss of the first level.

This is Onryoki and if he hits you at all, he will drain a full third of your health bar. He does combo attacks and if you aren't prepared to dodge or block them, you will drain three thirds of your health in one single attack. I know this because that is exactly what he did to me the first time I encountered him.

I think the reason why I can't stop playing this game is because I wan't to believe that I will eventually git gud at it but I think I am kidding myself and should probably just go and do some Witcher 3 side-missions or something.

I can see that I am not going to be able to finish this game. I can't even get past the first friggin boss without watching Youtube videos on it. At least for me, this game is a strange addiction because why on earth would someone play something that makes them so angry with its crazy difficulty level and I think i've figured out why I can't stop playing this damn near impossible game.

I think the reason why I keep at it is because of the fact that unlike Witcher or God of War's latest or just insert whatever title in here, is because when you do finally manage to figure out how to defeat certain enemies, it is a far more rewarding experience because you can't simply button-mash your way to victory in this game. It simply wont work. There is no way to BS your way through this game and there is no difficulty setting. It has one setting... F**king Hard.

Do you play Nioh? Let's talk about it? I'm sure I suck at it in comparison to other people and I am not even ashamed about that.

did not finish it myself because I am bad at gaming :-)

but the graphic style was awsome.

Never played Nioh but if it is anything like Dark Souls the skill gap is insane but also insanly addicting to find the patterns of the bosses

Hi there Gooddream! I guess I'm gonna play video games and challenge my boyfriend with it. The fun part is when you get higher scores to acquire weapons to win with your fight with your enemy there. One point is it's important not to let the opponent to constantly hit you because this can lower down your health bar as well. And it's a nice bonding activity with your boyfriend to play video games together.

I had this issue with Demons Souls (the first of these super hard games), didn't want give up and then the boss was impossible. This is the reason I ignored Bloodborne and the other souls games.

Being hard makes them compulsive if you can avoid throwing the controller through the monitor. I missed this one as my PSPlus elapsed but keep thinking about re-subcribing.

This month its Titanfall which is a boring shooter, I'll see what's on offer next. I still have around 12 other games to finish.

yeah, i have a backlog of games that were pretty decent and I should probably put Nioh on the back burner for something a little more casual-friendly. i think i have, like you, a dozen or so games that I have only played a little bit of in the PSPlus membership thinger.

I have watched a tutorial on the boss and can probably beat him if i follow that. To be honest though I don't really like the prospect of needing to do research to defeat the very first boss in a game. It is not a great sign of what is going to happen in later battles if i need that sort of help already.

In the tutorial that guy who made the video and I am presuming he is extremely good at this, still took like nearly 10 minutes to defeat him. That is a crazy amount of time to spend on one boss.

I had to do this for the bosses on Demons Souls, and I agree it shouldnt be like this. I do like hard games though, and played the Witcher on the hardest level.

The game still intrigues me, despite what you say about it. I'll 'try' and keep my distance.., look me up on the PSN network.. I was lucky enough to be an early adaptor and grabbed the handle 'slobberchops' ;)

I had a game that I feel was similar to this back when I had a PS2. I can't quite remember the name of the game though. I think it had a red case though :) I can see how if you never feel like you are getting any better it can be really frustrating. I had a James Bond game on the PS2 that was similar to that. It was super fun to play, but I sucked at it and I could never get very far. I have recently started playing Fallout New Vegas again on my gaming laptop. I am not far into it yet, but it has been fun playing something besides Diablo 3 again.
