Baseball Is Back

I am quite excited. 60 games sounds great after 0 is on the table.

The Dodgers just extended Mookie Betts for 12 years. Wow.

Gerritt Cole looks quite comfortable in Yankee pinstripes.

For now teams have a slightly expanded roster of 30 players. This will drop over the next weeks as players fully loosen up.

Last night I watched a preseason or "summer training game" between the Braves and the Marlins. Teams each played 2 or 3 summer training games before regular season.

"Regular season" starts tonight with two games.

Dodgers vs. Giants
Yankees vs. Nationals

Kershaw vs. Cueto
Cole vs. Scherzer
That's some pitching.

They are pumping fake crowd noise into the stadiums, which is odd perhaps, but then again many things are odd these days. I'm sure dead silence MLB games would be odd too.

David Price and Buster Posey are sitting out the season.

Extra innings start with a runner on second.

And pitchers will not hit in the National League, as both leagues are still on track to use a designated hitter.

I would prefer "No DH in NL," but for now Opening Day is still great news overall.

Power rankings to start the season are as follows:

  1. Dodgers
  2. Yankees
  3. Astros (though it's hard to tell how good Altuve is when he isn't cheating.)
  4. Twins
  5. Rays
  6. Braves
  7. A's
  8. Nationals

I love seeing the Twins and Rays and A's getting some hype the last couple years.

The Marlins are ranked 25th.
I think they will surprise.
Alcantara, Brian Anderson, Villar, Alfaro.
They got tons of young skill and added some solid veteran presence this offseason.

Some regularity, some fresh entertainment, some unity despite political opinions.
Baseball is good for the country, especially now.

My Dodgers cap is on. Let's do this.

Go Dodgers. Go Marlins. Go Yankees.

Be well.

Breaking news update: Clayton Kershaw was just put on the IL before tonight's start, and Dustin May is being moved in to replace him as the opening day starting pitcher. Kershaw cited back stiffness for the reason.
