Art Talk: Buying from local artists

avatar

Something that I like to do when I travel is buy paintings from local artists.

This trip I bought a watercolor in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I enjoy watching artists work and I think it makes the piece special having met the person that did the work of art I bought.

I choose the monochromatic picture of the Edinburgh Castle as we had just been there and it is such a central part of Edinburgh.

I also have a couple of paintings from the Mediterranean cruise in 2010.

This wonderfully textured oil painting of Jerusalem.

And this watercolor of Split, Croatia.

While I don't remember his name I do remember buying the watercolor and talking to him and taking the picture with him. It was one of the highlights of my short excursion to Spilt.

Do you have art from your trips?

That's a fun idea. There are a lot of very talented artists out there, it seems! I never really saw anyone painting on the streets where I lived in Spain. It would have been nice to have a painting of Ronda.
