María Lionza

Hello friends, today I made a drawing inspired by the story of María Lionza that constitutes the Venezuelan myth, The legend states that, at the time of the conquest, a head of the indigenous Kaketíos, of the Arawak language, had relations with a white woman and of this union had a beautiful daughter with clear eyes.

But according to the tradition and customs of the Kaketíos, it is said that a light-eyed girl brings bad luck and destruction to the Kaketía community. For this reason it was ordered to kill a person of these characteristics.
The father, although he was a boss, respected the customs of his community but did not have the courage to kill his own daughter but instead put her in a hut, The girl was growing up, she was very beautiful and when the first menstruation came, she wished Go out to purify yourself in the river. He went to the lagoon and it was here that for the first time he saw his face reflected in the still water of the lagoon.

Instead of seeing his eyes, what he looked at were two large caverns. At that moment the aquatic spirit saw her, the anaconda snake who swallowed her and disappeared immediately in the depths of the lagoon. However, the tradition had to be fulfilled, the anaconda snake became so large that it caused the waters of the lagoon to overflow and caused a great flood, a kind of flood.
Water flooded the entire valley and the tribe of the indigenous Kaketíos disappeared. After the flood, the snake burst, the young woman left the belly of the snake and then she became goddess of the waters, protector of the animals, owner of the mountain and mother of the crops.

as always, showing the stages of the drawing combination.
