Look at me and listen to me - collective exhibition

Yesterday was the day of the opening of the collective exhibition called “Guardami e ascoltami” (in italian means “Look at me and listen to me”). Tomorrow will be the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and so in my city, like in many other city, there will be a lot of event about this theme.   A local organization organized an exhibition about the theme calling some local artists (male artists and female artists) who, using different techniques and styles, gave a voice to the victims of the violence.  I'm one of those artists and I'm very proud to be there with one of my artworks. In the following pic you can see me and my painting on the wall of the place of the exhibition:

I painted this piece thinking about  my past experience as victim of domestic violence and it was not simple to put my emotions on a canvas. It happened to me a lot of years ago, years before to meet my super lovely hubby Paolo, but even if everything about those horrible facts will be always  in a deep part of me, I feel myself lucky because today I can tell about it, I can live my life while it's not the same for other victims.

For other victims is not the same, some of them were killed and sure, it makes me sad and angry. It's very important to talk about this theme and to say NO to every kind of violence (sure, not just against women), but we have to learn to look at people and to listen people, so we can help victims before it's too late.

I titled my artwork “dissolved identity”, because while I was working on it I was thinking on how an identity can be dissolved when someone is in a violent relationship. Sure, there is a lot of fear and just who had a similar relationship can understand that's not simple to say stop, but in this situation it's very common that the violent man try to destroy the “soul” of the victims before (or at the same time) to destroy her body. So the identity of a victim seems to be dissolved.

In this group of artists there are very nice people, young and not young, women and men, everyone with a different tecniques and materials, everyone gave a different vision of the emotions about this them. Here some pics I took during the event:

It was a day full of emotions and there were a lot of people to watch the exhibition. It will open for a couple of weeks and we are very proud to be part of this kind of event!

See ya soon and steem on,

Silvia
