Doodles, Diagrams, and Derelict Ideas

Greetings, curious reader! Here you will find various doodles I have made in the past few years. Usually animals, contraptions I want to build, or whatever is in front of me and sometimes with a seemingly irrelevant caption. Above is a picture of a praying mantis'face that I drew because I was thinking about a story I heard in which a mantis appeared in a girl's window and she thought it was an alien. (Interestingly enough, there have been reports of insectoid alien sightings in the past.)

This is a grub, the larva of a scarab beetle. The one below is a wire worm, the larva of a click beetle. I drew them while I was brainstorming once about a short story I wanted to write which was eventually scrapped.

The insect above was a pest that had made itself comfortable in my home a few seasons back, feeding on the juices of some of our houseplants, including my citrus tree. After some investigation, I later found out it was a mealy bug.

This picture and the next are some rough brainstorming ideas I had for a Splinterlands art contest. The butterfly wing is from a tiger swallowtail. I submitted a finished piece but did not end up winning anything. Most people who take part submit digital artworks which I think people favor because of how clean they look.

I used to draw animals a lot in my younger years.

This is a rare recent drawing of a black rhino, which is extinct in the wild now I believe. The drawing was to serve as a reference for a rhino I was trying to carve from a piece of jet, which is a coal-like substance I find on my walks sometimes.

This is the correct way to cut a large branch from a tree. One cut first at the bottom and then on top to prevent it from stripping ball off the remaining branch. Soak remember to leave some space between the trunk and the cut; don't cut flush with the trunk the way the city does because it's bad for the tree.

This drawing was of my late grandfather's boiler. I was tasked with shutting off the water to the garage. I don't know if I drew this before or after doing so.

These are plans for potentially detecting nearby alien space craft. It consists of wires connected to a compass so that if the needle moves, an alarm would sound. Alien ships glide along by creating their own magnetic field and warping the local magnetic field of the earth. That's what the compass is for.

Above is a random sketch of a homemade checkerboard serving as a base for a metal shelf that would hold plants, all sitting atop our piano by the western window.

I don't remember any I drew this window or where I got the idea from. However, I do know that the "title" is the name of a movie I partially saw and wanted to remember.

That's all the doodles I found today, spread across 3 journals. They remind me that I need to finish what I've started. Other than that, I didn't come across any breakthroughs. I have been wanting to draw more lately so hopefully I'll be able to share some brand new doodles soon.
That's all, folks!
