A Piece of Watercolor that is No More

Destroyed_Watercolour_24_07_2019_s.jpg

I'm awful at keeping my own works. I am still learning how to use watercolors and I mean the very basics. My background is photography. So my habit is to scrap all that's not good enough. And this one... Was not good enough for me in only one way. I did not like the way those rocks or stones upon the turtle shell looked. So I started working on them some more. And then some more. But in an impatient way and I spoiled them. I made them huge and ugly and dark and there is no going back from that that I know of in watercolor. So I grew even more impatient and I scrapped the piece of paper, after first giving the back of it some chance but impatiently painting it bad from the start.

I enjoy watercolors in general and there's one thing I know I need and sometimes I lack. It's patience. When impatient, you just destroy it. Like I did with this one. This photo is from the stage before I tried "fixing" it. I know there are a lot of mistakes and you telling me more of them will be of great help. But also there were parts that I liked a lot.

The size was A5.

Peace!

Yours,

Manol

Watercolour was never easy, needs lots of practice, and practice... I will find your patience eventually.

Thanks, mate!

I have my patience with other stuff. Like shooting. But when I am drawing I am in a hurry because I am not yet confident I will get a good result. So it's a magic trap of a kind, I guess. But I will learn, eventually.

This one is not so dark but what followed before I scrapped it...

If it means anything, I like the painting. I'm glad you at least got an image of it!

Stunning work! I often do what you did - attempt to fix something and then just make it worse lol. but we learn from our mistakes x

I think it is very pretty. Sometimes the works with errorsare the best.

I like how you use colors on the subject and the background . You separated them visually but you also connects them with elements of it!

I totally understand your feelings. Watercolour is very difficult to control and once it goes wayside, it's almost impossible to bring things back / correct them. But I kinda like this piece, I think you did the sea and the sun really well, even though the pillar in the middle is quite dark.

There is ONE thing that you can do with watercolours, though!

...

YOU CAN DO MORE PIECES :D :D :D

Right, that's the best thing. Working on other stuff and then I will finish some more. But also painting my walls at home is at hand. Won't be watercolor :(

Watercolours especially are something that takes a lot of patience, but you also learned and improved from this piece! And I think it's rather nice still. Good job. :)

I think this version is perfect! I understand what you mean; I sometimes take my project too far, and there is no going back with some mediums.

That's nice and I prefer practicing with smaller sizes like A5

Some best art people make always seem to stem from working from a mistake and turning it into something amazing. It’s also quite interesting what the creator things needs fixing everyone else does not notice and thinks it’s amazing. We are sometimes our own worst critics!

This is a great job! The mood is conveyed ... and I see the lighthouse, the sun's rays, and the waves on the water.

That is way better than what I could do! I especially like the colors you used in the sky. Keep on painting and you'll keep improving each time!

hehe watercolor is especially unforgiving. I've down a few of my own, but I think part of the beauty of watercolor is that it's a one and done kind of deal! The flaws make it real.

Well done for your fine art piece. Watercolors are a delicate medium, good of you to attempt such a delicate little piece.
