A Different Kind of Nativty......HandmadeTerra Cotta

(Edited)

Several years back I came across a shop on Etsy where a woman named Diana sold her pottery. One of the things she made was these terra cotta nativities, however, the ones she sold were Christmas Ornament sized.

I really loved them, but wanted a bigger one, so I emailed and asked her if she would consider making a larger version for me. She said she would, gave me a price and the deal was on !

Here is a link to her shop.

She made it SO much fun, because she sent me photos as she went along. Here is the original pot on the potter's wheel. Some time after it was thrown, she cut it in half to make mine.

Here it is sitting beside a can after she had the figures made and placed, to show the size.

....and here it's drying before glazing.

I took a creative lighting photo of it. In this type of light though, it does lose it's warm terra cottery color. :)

Sweet.... right ?

Hope you all had a good Monday and that your week is full of happy surprises.

Luv ya !

I really like the design of these. It didn't click that the background was a pot split vertically until you showed the picture of the thrown pot, super cool the artist shared process photos with you. Probably one of the coolest nativities I have seen.

I thought it was nice of Diana to send the process photos too. I had no idea she was going to do that until I received the first one. It really took the experience to an extra special level.

Thank you ! I've had it several years now. The first year I left it out all year. I just couldn't put it away. :)

That's an incredibly creative piece! I love it. I never would have thought to use a spun piece of pottery like that. Brilliant!

I thought so too !

She has come up with several contemporary designs for nativity pieces and clay ornaments. It's worth a look at her page just to see how creative she is.
