Andalusian Dancer. Handcut collage 100/70cm.

This portrait belongs to an older handcut collage series, titled Paper Destinations. I created 12 artworks based on the travel photographs of a friend who was really keen on travelling in different places frequently and taking a lot of interesting photos. It was a very enjoyable process that involved choosing together the best material for each destination and then start to cut and paste the pieces using my stained glass technique. For this one the material came from a trip to beautiful Andalusia and even though i do not have any process photos, i have the original ones. The outline was based on a poster of a dancer with a hand fan and a rose on her hair.

I used this photograph for the skin and hair because i liked the colour and the arrangement of the balconies in the building. I used a large intact part for the arm and the circular balconies created the idea of large bracelets. Also the colour and texture gave her the look of a statue.

This photo was used as material for the large scurf she is wearing. I was inspired by the lines of the buildings and used the blue of the sky to add a little contrast between the grey tones.

This amazing church interior had a lot of details and i decided to use it for the hand fan and her dress. The wall lines fitted perfectly on the fan and the golden colour of the organ adds a metallic tone to the artwork.

The background is a simple wall detail with the yellow tones and interesting texture.

Amazing! I love it when artists use other objects to make the color and texture of a picture

Thank you for your kind words:) This is the way use collage, trying to replace colours and highlights with part of photographs. It is very creative and fun, the results are very surreal sometimes, lol

Very pretty collage, @georgeboya :) I like the pose of the dancer, and how you used those photographs as different parts to her skin, dress, and fan <3

This girl is beautiful, the pose is very interesting and impressive, it has a bit of mystery as well. It reminded me of the tango dancers. I like the look, I feel that you can fall in love with her as soon as you look at her eyes.
I love the details of the clothes and the design that you created for the fan. Definitely your work is magical! with those photos you made a very special piece.

I think the part that I see and can be my favorite [Although all are. These are a little more ...] are those pink and fleshy lips, they look provocative! I love the contrast of and the lips and the whole flower [because you did not create it with parts] with the rest of the work.

I was very sure that you would liked her my dear Carmen:) She was a dancer, flamengo i think but i am not sure. The lips were made from a part of the rose, so you can say that she has rosy lips:) Thank you for your kind words, aways a pleasure to read them:)

Oh! Yes, yes, yes, I was wrong, it's Flamenco! what the Spanish girls dance a lot (I love it). I got confused with tango. The cultures crossed me and made me short circuit. I'm going to blame the dream since it was about 6:00 am XD.

Flamenco

Yes? that's why it's so identical color, those two things caught my attention a lot.
I really like to see your wonderful pieces, you put incredible details in them.

That is really beautiful collage you created, when I saw the architecture under the artwork I was really surprised to know that it was used to create the collage and background color is perfectly chosen from the wall, looks like old Oil painting. Really nice :)

Oh, i am so happy that you like it Stef:) I think all the colours are kind of similar in this artwork. It was a very interesting project, using someone else's photos and vision in a way. I have more to present from this series:)

Beautiful. It's astonishing when many other materials are combined to form something else totally unrelated... Only the creativity's the limit.

I looked at every section and tried to figure out what each photo was. You used a lot of balconies and windows in the collage. Any reason or meaning behind it? Anyway loved the art and the background almost makes it feel like graffiti artwork.

This is absolutely amazing!! Seeing the photos, I never would have guessed that they are anywhere in the finished piece. Of course, I can see it after you are telling me what you did - but wow. You have an admirer here!
