BROKEN HEART. Illustration by Alejandra Her
I have named this illustration Broken Heart, although I could have named it in any other way, for example: doubt, please turn around...
We have all had a broken heart once: for lost friends, for a love that is gone, for bad decisions, etc. However, what I wanted to show in this illustration is the pain we cause ourselves when we turn our backs on the light.
The young woman, whose chest is shattering, has a gesture of discomfort, angry or dissatisfaction. She is back to the light, which can be the solution to everything. She is sitting, maybe waiting for something.
When we don't forgive ourselves, when we don't allow ourselves to heal, and life could be very hard.
My creative process started with a sketch, a very rough one
Then, I trace every line. I enjoy drawing hair lines.
I colored clothes with flat colors
I didn't want to color her skin. Even though, I colored her cheeks, nose, lips and fingers with a light red. Then, I shaded with a charcoal brush in multiply mode at 4% of opacity. I also colored the blood of her broken heart.
I added a new layer in blue color. Then, I erased the light parts and put it in multiply mode at 16% opacity.
To finish, I added the light layers: Several layers in light yellow with gaussian blur in different modes: overlay and screen
I used a watercolor brushed predetermines in Adobe Photoshop.
