Oct. 2, 20: HVAC Contractor, Xbox, Laps, and Games

It was an even earlier morning this morning. Up at five sharp and yet another hour plus short on sleep. Woke up working on programming in my head and couldn’t go back even though I wanted to.

Decided I was gonna’ hunker down and focus and try and do some actual work on the code instead of just doing it all in my head (and having nothing to show for it).

BUT, I forgot that the guys were coming to give us an estimate on replacing the furnace and air conditioner. 😳 We did some last minute cleaning up so the place was a little more presentable to guests and then I pretty much only barely had time to get my post done before they came.

It ended up being only one guy (the manager of the replacement department) and, boy, was I impressed with him! First, he showed up without a mask and asked if I wanted him to wear one. Plus one point. Then we asked if it was possible to do the furnace now and AC in the spring and he was like “no problem.” Plus another point.

We took him to have a look in the basement, he poked around a little and we discussed that we were planning on heating the upstairs separately. At this point I thought he was going to start talking about ripping out and/or replacing ductwork, but no, he was like “that’s no problem, you’ve already got dampeners closed on them, they can be sealed off later if you want.” Another point!!!

Then he started down selling the two stage, more expensive version...which worked cause he didn’t try to push it.

Things were already looking pretty good and then he’s like “I’d put in the same filter cabinet, so we can just leave that and reuse it, it’s a good cabinet.” So that saved a lot more on a piece that I would have assumed needed to be replaced as well. Plus TWO points.

He said several times that it would be a straight foreword, easy installation; made feel confident in their ability to do the work.

I also told him that I just replaced the thermostat, and he was like “Great, then I can save you another hundred, hundred and fifty bucks.” 😃

Once he left (quite contrary to the other experiences I’ve had with contractors), I felt really good about the job and what needed to be done...not sure if it’s irresponsible not to get another quote, but he basically sold me already.

It ain’t gonna’ be cheap, though...looking at $6000 at the minimum. 😢 We would qualify for a $300 rebate from the energy company, so that helps a little, but on top of the washer and dryer and fridge and toaster and...it’s really adding up. 😧

Still not really seeing any advantageous moves in the crypto markets at the moment. HIVE still low...buying opportunity or adding to my bags? I did have a BLURT powerdown come through, so I sent it over to HE but haven’t sold it yet.

Although I had set programming as my goal for the day, having the guy out threw me for a loop, so I didn’t end up doing any (at least that’s my excuse). Instead I wasted more life playing The Division on Xbox. 😛

Learned about another new blockchain game: Star Citizen. It looks like Mass Effect and has the FPS dynamic. Some of the guys in The Man Cave are playing it and I’m seriously tempted to get involved, but do I really need another reason to kill time and suck money? Not so sure.

With cleaning up and walking around with the HVAC guy, I didn’t have too many steps left to go, but still I had more than a thousand. 🤭 Did some laps around the house to keep the streak alive even though I had to drag myself up from falling asleep.

After I got my steps in, it wasn’t long before I hit the hay. Watched an episode or so of The Worst Witch and was out. Spoiler alert: I slept even less. 😡

Sweet, sweet peace in the ol’ dCity today. Got my SIM, WEED, and BEER for the day. 🤑

Got my Holybread tasks done too! 👍 I suppose that’s one advantage to getting knocked down in the ranks, I get some battles I can actually win! 😁

Fell to the bottom of the top twenty there for a bit, but fought back up a little ways.

Still no change with Hivesigner. Although I have been able to use HiveWallet to do HE transactions (with one account), it’s now been three days since I’ve even been able to get into CryptoBrewmaster. 😢

It’s not like I was catching up before, now I’m days behind...might just let it go. We’ll see.

Well, don’t know how long it’s been that I’ve done my daily Splinterlands quest...got to be every day for nearly a year, maybe more.

Today for my quest I got Dragon splinter, which should have presented the easiest challenge...I played one game, lost again, and finally got fed up.

To be honest, it’s still been nagging at me a little bit, but it is kind of liberating just to say “Screw that shit, I don’t care anymore.”

Question is: what to do now? Lease out the cards, sell them off...?

I do feel some obligation to my guild to play, and I suppose I should offer up the spot if I’m not going to. I guess, at the moment, I’d best not do too much drastic that I might regret later...thinking I’ll just take a break for a day or two, that might put things in perspective.
