I’m late because the bridge had opened... It must be a Dutch joke as it doesn’t ring ...
... a bell with me writing it in English. It’s a joke similar to ‘The dog ate my homework’, everyone knows it’s a lie, so you use it only to signal you’re going to tell the real reason later. However, sometimes bridges do open and ironically there have been situations where I was late because I had left home ‘just in time’ to make an appointment, only to be confronted with a few minutes stop thanks to ‘the opened bridge’. Curse of living in a country with as much water as The Netherlands. Anyway, I’m not late today, I would’ve missed the train thanks to this bridge but the train was late too :D Moreover, my dinner date won’t start in another few hours, I only decided to leave home already to catch a movie in the most beautiful cinema of our country. I have visited the museum in the same building a few months ago, but so far hadn’t had the chance to just sit in one of their movies. Oh, and that dinner date? just an awesome Steemian. I won’t tell you their name as hey, I’m not writing this post to make you all jealous.
Haha, beautiful
Sometimes it's good if you can rely on trains being late.
Although, here in The Netherlands they are on-time more than in other countries.
Enjoy the dinner :)
Exactly. Still we complain more about the trains than in any other country as well :’) High expectations I guess.
I was just caught out in the middle of a swing bridge last month while I was visiting Curacao.
I can't even begin to tell you how annoying as I watched the almost no notice movement while I was running late to get somewhere. It was all for naught as it was only minutes of a wait. On the way over the bridge, I had to wait almost 20 minutes for the traffic to clear up.
I feel your pain! Plus, it is an amusing story.
Have a great day!

Sharp as a tack me! :0D
Funny! I can see this being a pretty common excuse in your country. Here in the US, freight trains can cause huge delays at railroad crossings.
Hahaha, I have heard so many reasons why staff is late, hehehe. Some are hilarious, but true for sure!
Thanks for this article, it made me chuckle! Have a wonderful weekend, dear @soyrosa, and take care🥰🌺🤙
