Un domingo de guardia || A Sunday on call [ESP-ENG]

Espero que todo bien, muchas buenas vibras y feliz inicio de semana.

El día de ayer, uno de los tan flojos y deliciosos domingos que han ocurrido en la historia de la humanidad...yo me encontraba de guardia. ¿Creen que no se hace nada un domingo? Yo también lo pensé, que sería una guardia tranquila y algo floja. En un principio lo fue. Todo estaba vacío, solo estábamos allí. Existiendo.

Tras mucho matar el tiempo hablando y estudiando un poco me invadió el sentimiento puro y real de querer comerme unos pastelitos, así que aquí aprovecho de darle crédito a mi mejor amiga, ella está en otro estado a más de 8 horas de distancia, aún así ella pago mis pastelitos y yo pude desayunar.

¡Estaban divinos! Pero había algo en el aire, la premonición del desastre... Estaba tenso todo, como cuando va a ocurrir un desastre natural. Las horas pasaron y nos confiamos. Relajamos el pánico y empezamos a pensar que eran exageraciones nuestras. Jamás ignoren a sus presentimientos, no lo fueron.

La emergencia de pediatría explotó, ¡Explotó! En un sentido figurativo. En un momento estaba vacía y al otro estaba a reventar de muchos muchos pacientes. Traumatismo craneoencefálico, convulsión febril, crisis asmática, hernia inguinal con signos de encarcelamiento, síndrome febril, paciente quirúrgico, síndrome emético...son solo algunas de las patologías que puedo sacar a colación que presentaban nuestras decenas de pacientes.

A partir de allí no dejaron de llover. De aquí a para allá. Pesar, el EPI, hacer la anamnesis. Revisión física, dosificar. Sólo éramos dos personas, yo y mi compañero de guardia (hasta que llegaba la residente encargada) y no parábamos. Algo bonito que quiero destacar es que el equipo de ORL pediátrico de mi hospital es una de las pocas cosas que funciona y no se han robado las personas mañosas. Por lo que aún nos es posible brindar una revisión completa, exhaustiva y con los implementos correctos en el área de ORL, lo cual me hace muy feliz con respecto a la atención que brindamos y nuestra formación.

No sé por cuántas horas se mantuvo así la guardia. Perdí la cuenta, pero para cuando nos quisimos dar cuenta ya había anochecido y estábamos prontos a irnos a casa "a descansar". Pero la Dra debió decir la fatídica frase, que aunque cierta, rompió el halo sutil de descanso que habíamos levantado:

- "¡Hasta mañana!"

Y aquí estamos hoy. Voy camino al servicio de nuevo, sentada en el bus. Con las pilas renovadas y muchas ganas de seguir haciendo lo que amo. Sin importar si el país se esta cayendo a pedazos.

Yesterday, one of the so lazy and delicious Sundays that have occurred in the history of mankind...I was on duty. Do you think you do nothing on a Sunday? I thought so too, that it would be a quiet and somewhat lazy watch. At first it was. Everything was empty, we were just there. Existing.

After much time killing talking and studying a bit I was overcome with the pure and real feeling of wanting to eat some cupcakes, so here I take the opportunity to give credit to my best friend, she is in another state over 8 hours away, still she paid for my cupcakes and I was able to have breakfast.

They were divine! But there was something in the air, the premonition of disaster? Everything was tense, like when a natural disaster is about to happen. The hours passed and we became confident. We relaxed our panic and began to think that these were our exaggerations. Never ignore your premonitions, they were not.

The pediatric emergency room exploded, exploded! In a figurative sense. One moment it was empty and the next it was bursting at the seams with many, many patients. Cranioencephalic trauma, febrile convulsion, asthmatic crisis, inguinal hernia with signs of incarceration, febrile syndrome, surgical patient, emetic syndrome...these are just some of the pathologies that I can mention that our dozens of patients presented.

From then on, the rain did not stop. From here to there. Weighing, EPI, anamnesis. Physical examination, dosing. There were only two of us, me and my partner on duty (until the resident in charge arrived) and we did not stop. One nice thing I want to point out is that the pediatric ENT team at my hospital is one of the few things that works and has not been stolen by crafty people. So it is still possible for us to provide a complete, thorough, thorough checkup with the correct implements in the ENT area, which makes me very happy about the care we provide and our training.

I don't know how many hours the guard was kept like that. I lost count, but by the time we realized it was already dark and we were ready to go home "to rest". But the Dr. must have said the fateful phrase, which although true, broke the subtle halo of rest we had raised:

- "See you tomorrow!"

And here we are today. I'm on my way to the toilet again, sitting on the bus. With renewed batteries and a lot of desire to continue doing what I love. No matter if the country is falling apart.
