Rhinos Roaming at a Florida Wild Preserve
The following images were taken at the Lion Safari animal preserve in Loxahatchee Florida. For this post I have included a few shots of rhinos that I came across along my journey across the park.
These animals were separated from the spectators by a good amount of space because they tend to get aggressive and can charge your vehicles. Luckily I had really nice telephoto lens which you can see in the last photo of this post.
I was surprised to see the little white birds following around the rhinos. Interestingly, each rhino had it's own bird. It may be my imagination, but it seemed like each bird would only follow around it's own particular rhino.
Some of these guys looked pretty rough, as if they have been in a lot of fights. The horns looked pretty worn out. My guess is that they have a lot of really old animals there. They are an endangered species, after all. We may be the last generation that gets to appreciate them before they are driven to extinction by poachers.
I hope you enjoyed these shots! Check back soon for more images from my Lion Safari adventure!

Quite an impressive camera lens your toting ...:-)
That lens belongs to my father-in-law.. Too expensive for me!
Rhinos and birds - must be a symbiotic relationship. There are oxpeckers that rid them of ticks, but your white birds are egrets. Both types of birds would warn them of enemies approaching (such as guys with huge tele lenses, haha) - More about this HERE
Long time ago in a funny mood I painted this, called Chicken Surprise:
I used to have fun coming up with such zany stuff ......
That painting is awesome! I love it. Thanks for the link too. After I posted this, I got curious and read a little about it myself. It's interesting how the rhinos seem to know that the birds are helping them. Either that or they are are tired of trying to chase the birds off...

Great shots. I want to slap a rhino in the butt one day and see if I can get away.
Sounds like a plan. I'll hold your camera while you do that.
Just make sure to get some cool pictures of me as it is chasing me.

Of course!
Nice shots! This looks like a pretty cool place to visit. I have been to the safari down at Disney, but it probably isn't as cool as this one!
