Hello everyone!

It's that time of year again and I am sure you have all heard of the German Christmas Markets, but did you know that lots of small villages around Germany hold private Christmas Markets as well?

Well for the last month my children have hardly seen their Oma because she has been busy preparing for her annual Christmas Market held at her private residence.

Every year after Christmas my mother-in-law goes out to the stores and buys up all the steeply reduced Christmas decorations and begins to craft a bunch of self-made pieces to sell at her Christmas market the following year.

She then uses the money to buy all of her Christmas presents and I think she normally does pretty well. She invites the entire village and they usually show up in droves for free punch, hot Cocoa, coffee, waffles, and of course to purchase her locally famous Christmas decorations.

We spent the entire day there today helping her prepare for the open doors tomorrow. She fills her carport and house with the handmade crafts and everyone comes over and has a really nice time.

Family from all over Germany came this weekend to help her and of course, come away with some free Christmas goodies for their hard work. The farthest came from Bavaria which is an eight hour drive all the way up here!

I think she has some really great stuff this year and I hope she does well tomorrow, then I will get a really nice Christmas gift ๐Ÿ˜‚

Have a good one!

German Christmas markets are the best! We went last year, it is a short drive from Netherlands... perhaps again this year if the roads are not filled with snow!

They are so much fun! We will surely head to the city a few times and get some punch and brats! My favorite is roasted chestnuts!

I only tried roasted chestnuts for the first time last year!... I'm in love with them! My kids love the spiral potatoes on sticks...

Nice tradition I think. We don't get that sort of thing here in Australia generally, certainly not in people's private residences. Seems like a nice way to involve the family and the community.

I just got back and it was pretty nice. Damn cold and windy put we kept warm with some hot cider and punch. Not the best turn out, but she is still open for a few more hours.

It's the thought that counts and it got the family together so it's worth doing.

I've never been to a German Christmas market, but my daughter got to experience inn fee last year, the lucky thing. What a clever idea to have a private one. I can imagine interfering governmental departments having a field day if we tried something like that here (insurance, taxes, licences...).

I'm fascinated by the Nutella in a cage and the hack saw!

You will have to make it out sometime! The germans really outdo themselves when it comes to Christmas.

Yeah luckily we live out in the sticks and the gov officials are close-knit to the community! I saw the Nutella thing too, no idea what it is I thought maybe you put a loaf of bread on there or something??? I will have to ask.
