Gold Creek Lower Falls

in adventure •  2 months ago

This is a shot of the lower falls along Gold Creek in Golden Ears Provincial Park in Southern BC. I was shocked at how busy this place was when we were there until we asked some people who told us there was a Vancouver 'Socality' instameet happening. I then watched in horror as someone lost control of a two week old drone in the updraft coming off the waterfall which hit an overhanging tree branch and promptly plunged into the falls never to be seen again. We headed out off track into the forest to find some peace from the crowds for a while then came back to take this shot under heavy spray from the waterfall just before dusk with the falls to ourselves. Thinking we were smart for outlasting the crowds we then almost got trapped in the park as unbeknownst to us they lock the gates at 5:30pm sharp at that time of year. Luckily there was still a ranger there who let us though so I did not miss my flight I had b booked later that night !

The shot was taken on a Canon EOS 6D Mark II and Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM at ISO 100, 20.0 mm, f/16 and 1s exposure time.

Wow. I had heard of socality, and it seems like a bunch of people going to the same spots to make the same photograph. Maybe it was more than that, I never checked.

It seemed a bit like a hipster cult to me ;-)

I like to go to the mountains to be by myself or with a few close friends. Last thing I want is crowds.

did you ever see the socality barbie Instagram account? It did a pretty good job "roasting" the culture

@intrepidphotos the waterfall picture looks good, showing the work of nature.

Thanks

Oops losing the drone would have been somewhat unpleasant DX though I thought for a moment you were going to say you were watching in horror as someone fell in x_x

Don't they sign when they shut the gates so that people don't get stuck in there XD

Funny story.
Happy you could make it to get out of the park and catch the flight.
It is sad how the beauty of nature can be destroyed by us humans just overcrowding it, good at least we have photography to be able to contemplate it from all over the world as you bring it to us.
