Coyotes in the snow - Actifit: December 3 2019

(Edited)

Today started out gray, but the weather report was for sun.

So, when someone at the office announced that there were coyotes out on the frozen pond outside our office building, and I went to look out the window. I was surprised to note that I was blinded by the sun on the snow.

Where? What coyotes? I didn’t see them! Is this April Fool’s day?

But no — there they were! As I stood there I watched them wander back onto the sunny space on the ice. They were beautiful creatures.

Of course my iPhone camera just can’t quite capture it. When I zoom in they don’t become more clear. In fact one of my co-workers thought they were deer!

I went down there, hoping to get a better look. I put on my coat and went out to the snow covered courtyard. Unfortunately, they immediately saw me as a threat and scampered to the far side of the pond. And then they were gone. But they left this.

Thank you for visiting!

How very cool!! And they left you a little something~ :)

Aren't they usually nocturnal?

Thanks for sharing that! Have a great day!

Thank you for the tip, @dswigle! I don't know if they are nocturnal. Possibly. But we do see them around in daylight quite a bit. I just don't know what they were doing in such an urban area!

Oh wow!
I know we have coyotes around here too. We've seen them along the back of the property, along the creek out back and even along the road about 100 yards from our front door.

I don't think they are dangerous to people at all, but I wouldn't want my kitties out there if the coyotes are on the prowl!

I bet they would! I'm sure they would be going "whoa! Hey -- are you guys cousins, or what? You look so... similar but different!"

Wouldn't that be cute if the doggies and the coyotes played together?!

That is a beautiful view of the pond and the coyote lok like statues on the ice! I see lots of tracks down there so there is probably lots of game around for them to be out like that in broad daylight!
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, they must be after squirrels and birds or something. I'm always surprised when they come right out in the open like that!

That almost looks like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie.

I agree! The bright sunlight glaring off the snow somehow contributes to the effect. In real life, it's very pretty. But my iphone had no idea how do deal with the glare.
