Shill Maher Revisited

In March 2019 I wrote a short post about how Bill Maher has become a shill for the status quo while presenting himself as a progressive. Has he changed at all, or is he still the same shill?

Spoiler alert: it's still Shill Maher. I must admit that I haven't changed as well, which means that I'm still not watching his show and for the same reasons; he has fully adopted the right wing talking points about the "woke left" and the "far left," and he still acts like a spoiled kid who's had his million dollar ice cream taken away from him. Somehow he thinks it's more important to whine about pronouns and genders than the real socioeconomic hardships thrust upon the common people by his corporate masters. Apparently Krystal Ball was one of his guests recently and she did a great job exposing Shill's fake outrage about the "far left" and Joe Biden's presidency.

Don't get me wrong though; there's tons of criticisms to be had about the virtue-signaling fake left and Biden's failures to deliver for the American people. I've written lots of posts about the abuse of political correctness and support for marginalized demographics, but always with the caveat that this abuse is perpetrated by the corporate elites in the Democratic Party and the corporations themselves. Yes, the BLM banners and rainbow logos on corporate outings are fake. Yes, the pandering to marginalized groups by the Democrat establishment is mostly to gain votes and acts as a replacement for their failure to deliver where it counts; economically and legislatively. Attack them from the left, and you may have a point.

But Shill attacks them from the right, adopting the same tired old right wing lies. Shill's first question in the below linked video is exemplary of where he really stands; he asks if Biden has gone too far left. What? In what universe is that a sensible question? Then the other guest blames inflation on the government spending too much on covid relief... And Shill defends him! What? How? I'm sure it contributed to inflation, but the question is how much, and compared to what. Just to remind us all: Trump spent $3 trillion on covid relief, Biden spent $1.9 trillion. And in both bills, the vast majority was aimed at large corporations and banks. You know, the billionaires who needed rescuing. Just to refresh Shill's memory, billionaires doubled their wealth during the pandemic, so why lose your cool over regular people receiving a couple hundreds here and there while in quarantine?

Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, estimated this past week that the rescue package added 0.1 percentage points to year-over-year inflation, well behind shocks caused by the war in Ukraine, the pandemic and the affordable housing crisis.

Anyhow, Krystal Ball does a wonderful job rebutting much of the nonsense here, so please watch the below linked commentary on Krystal's great, and Shill's poor performance at providing some essential facts about the economy.
