Hello 2022

Looking back at 2021, we have to admit that the future isn't looking particularly bright. Trump has been replaced by Biden as "the leader of the free world," but we have to ask ourselves how free the world is, and if its leader is promoting freedom at all.

Opposites attract. Or at least that's the case in physics. Not so much in the world of humans, human relations and political discourse. And it seems to get worse each year. I've been putting my thoughts to the screen sharing them with you all since 2017 when I started blogging on Steemit, and since April 2018 I've done so on a daily basis; that's almost 1500 posts in total. And although I write about whatever peaks my interest at the time, often something about science, philosophy or history, the majority of my posts are about politics in general, and the left-right division in particular. During these years I've seen the gap between rich and poor grow, the young be pitted against the old, democracy be attacked, and "alternative facts" become commonplace. The election year of 2020 especially, when Trump cultivated widespread belief in the "Big Lie" and had millions of Americans believe that the elections had been rigged against him, with not a shred of proof, saw polarization reach peaks I hadn't seen before. And it's been like that ever since; 2021 was no different.

With the year almost done, I have to think about what the future might bring, and it's not looking good, I must say. The only positive thing, politically and ideologically speaking, I can think of right now is that we've seen democratic socialism and just plain socialism massively gain popularity among the younger generations. The flip-side of that coin is that this has pitted the young against the old; aside from the usual intergenerational disagreements, we now have millions of children who just can't understand their parents, and vice versa. QAnon supporters just can't understand the rest of us. And the hard core of Trump's support-base still believes the "Big Lie." When people loose the ability to even agree on facts, when some people live in a whole other reality, that makes for a very explosive situation indeed. And that's exactly where we are, going into 2022.

Almost four years of posting daily about these developments has shown me one thing above all; we live in a world of contradictions, antagonism, polarization and a general sense of pessimism. I truly wish that I could end this year on a more positive note, but that would be dishonest, which is the last thing I want to be. Whether it's the heated discussions during family diners, the protesters and counter-protesters comprised of BLM, Antifa, Trump supporters and QAnon delusionals, or the birth of a new cold war between China and the west, polarization and the vanishing of middle ground is felt everywhere and on every scale. And that's even without mentioning the divide caused by the global pandemic... I hope that 2022 will surprise me, and that we'll be able to grow closer together in the knowledge that we're worthless on our own, that we have so much more similarities than differences as human beings. So let's celebrate that we're all basically the same in that we're all equally unique. Our differences should bring us closer together, rather than drive us more apart.

Linked below is an interesting conversation between conservative parents and liberal zoomers. They can't seem to agree on anything, as you'd expect. But they are all there together, and even if they aren't able to really reach each other, being together in one space is a good start at least; let's take that positive note into the new year. I leave you all with my best wishes for the new year and all the years to come after that!

Dear @zyx066 , From point of my view, You always point out problems, but never suggest ideas or methods to solve them.😳
So, I find your arguments interesting, but hard to trust.😦

No one can tell you who to trust, so I won't. But you've asked me this same question before, and I've answered before. Have I mentioned that I'm a socialist..? ;-)

Dear @zyx066 , If you are a socialist in Europe, what do you think of the communists in China?
East Asians like me do not know the difference between European socialism and Chinese communism.😅
