I've lost my husband...

And it's all my fault. It was my idea to get him this amazing constructor, the wooden mechanical DIY model of Heavy Truck VM-03 as his birthday gift.

  • «Heavy Boy Truck VM-03» mechanical model kit
  • Number of components: 541
  • Estimated time of assembly: 8-9 hours
  • Level: Advanced

I met these guys on the net. Cool Ukrainian startup When I first saw that variety of models on the net, I didn't know what to choose. A train? Or a Research Vessel? Steam Train maybe? Something more simple or more complicated? Would he like it?

They are really good at it.

"Imagine – early morning: the mist crawling along the highway fills the air with a sleepy chill. It is not the coffee that wakes you up, but a turn of the key that sends the fuel along the veins of your 18-wheel beast making it purr like a giant mighty cat. You breathе in the air inside the cabin to smell a familiar mix of leather, gasoline, long days and sleepless nights on the road – and slowly drive your truck to the highway taking your time before it can release its true power and sweep ahead like a beautiful roaring monster… Have you ever experienced anything like that?"
"Of course, not!" - I replied.
"Now is your chance to join the noble tribe of long-haul truckers with a “Heavy Boy Truck VM-03” model from Ugears.
"
"I buy it!"

When the parcel arrived, it was ... so small, although heavy. I was beginning to wonder if he would be happy about my idea. He's an engineer, so he might love to do it himself, but who knows, who knows. Looked like it will be a surprise for both.

And when he opened the box, I saw he didn't know how to react. Inside were Assembly instructions and a lot of wooden boards stacked. That's all. Not pretty impressive as for €69.90 (I've bought a Trailer for the truck as well for €29.90). The manual for the truck has 51 pages. Oh. My. God... 🤔😬

And then... the magic begins. My hubby accepted the challenge. He is not new to learning instructions or using tools. Oh by the way, about tools! It is assembly without glue and chemicals. No screwdriver or hammer. You'll not need'em. At the photos below there are all that's needed. Those funny small tool looking halk like a fork half like a ruler is multifunctional stuff. My favorite, soooo cute 💙 Also, a piece of wax, rubber band, toothpicks.

After a stressful working day, Nick came home and went straight to the desk with his creation. While the job required caution, patience, and attention, for him it was stress relieving and relaxing. And the pleasure of how gradually this stack of wooden boards turns into a real truck.

Our evenings have changed. The TV no longer creates unnecessary noise, the apartment is quiet, I can read or work or do chores. Nick is almost invisible and inaudible, he began to smoke less, almost never drinks beer. But when he takes a break and comes to show me what he has already done, his eyes glow like a 5-year-old boy. And I am happy that he is happy.

It turned out to be a dream vehicle. The dream of a little boy and a grown man.

"Robust and powerful, the Ugears long-hauler has a R6 engine driven by a rubber band motor. With one winding, the truck can go for about 5 meters. The transmission system implemented in the model has three modes: forward, back and idle. The front sprung wheels turn to set the direction.

The detailed design includes all iconic elements of a long-haul truck – two big pipes and two pairs of mirrors as well as a realistic hook up system that connects your tractor unit to the trailer. For more convenient access to the cabin, a small ladder is mounted under the cabin door. In the rear of the truck you will find a shovel and a gas can. Moreover, for the tired driver, the Heavy Boy can offer a cosy sleep station with a TV-set!"

It has even a shovel and a spare canister! And yes, it moves! Isn't it adorable?

It was very exciting to watch my husband and how the result of his work changes. Should I say that Sonia loved the truck at the first sight?

Now it's finished, and Nick wanted to bring it to the office. He's proud of his job. Besides, there are about 10 grown men in their open space. Now they have another point to talk about :)

Wow! How long did it take him to finish it? Maybe he could start a club with the guys at work, great way to quit smoking and booze! 😊

It's a great one though, and awesome photos from yourself!!

He's quite busy and could do this no more than two hours a day, sometimes half an hour. In fact, without me, he wouldn't sleep at all ))) Actually, he ordered the next model on the next day after he finished the truck, lol.

Thank you so much for appreciating!

Successful publication and incredible build. It is a stunning vehicle and you have rightly lost your husband :D but you have enjoyed it together. As always your narration and description brings the moment alive for all who read you. By the way, great pictures. Congratulations! My son @alandesign will be interested to see this, when he can.
