El birrete para mi sobrino.🎓...Esp-Eng
Si ya esta por culminar este año escolar, paso como más rápido que otras veces, aunque no hay muchas celebraciones digamos como antes por lo del terremoto, como muestra de solidaridad, se puede hacer el acto de graduación, acto solemne, nada de música y fiestas, pero siempre algunos lo hacen, la empatía se pierde.
Tengo 4 sobrinos, de los cuales el ultimo hasta ahora el menor de ellos Meruem, sale de 6to grado y su mama me dijo para hacerle el birrete, que en un principio iba era como a redecorar uno que tengo, pero luego cuando Sali a comprar los materiales encontré un color azul en cartulina espectacular, por lo que decidí hacerlo completo, que ya lo verán.
Materiales:
-Cartulina azul nacarado.
-Cordon delgado dorado.
-Foami dorado escarchado.
-Foami blanco escarchado.
-Retazo de cartulina azul metalizado tipo espejo.
-Cartulina para reforzar.
-Pistola y barras de silicon.
-Papel, lápiz, regla, tijera.
Elaboración paso a paso:
No es la primera vez que hago uno, pero si tenia mucho tiempo sin hacerlo, para quien le gusta y entiende de manualidades se les hace fácil.
-De uno que tenia en casa, tome las medidas, pero las modifique ya que el que tenia era mas pequeño, aprovechando que mi sobrino paso el fin de semana en la casa, le tomaba las medidas y se lo iba probando.
-El birrete se compone de dos partes: la tapa arriba y el cuerpo abajo o la base que es como cilíndrico.
-Marque en la cartulina dos cuadrados de 24 cms, por los cuatro lados, la cartulina de soporte que va entre las otras dos las medidas fueron de 22 cms por los cuatro lados.
-La otra parte el cuerpo, medí dos rectángulos de 13 cms de ancho por 60 cms de largo.
-Primero la tapa: la cartulina que va de relleno es para hacerlo mas fuerte, que no se vaya a doblar mucho, la pegue a la tapa de abajo y luego pegue la de arriba, en las orillas, fui poniendo silicón y con el lomo de un peine, lo fui pasando para que no quedaran espacios abiertos.
-Como la tapa quedo delgada, el cordón se vería muy grueso, tome la medida de 26 cms de cordón, lo abrí y me dio 3 cordones delgados.
-Estos cordones con el silicón lo fui pegando con mucho cuidado por todo el contorno de la tapa del birrete, me gusto como quedo, un hilo pero el dorado resaltaba.
-Dejamos la tapa por ahora, porque le falta, pero al final.
-Vamos con lo que es cuerpo o base del birrete, medí el contorno de la cabeza de mi sobrino y me daba como 55 cms, lo que lo lleve a 60 cms, más vale que sobre y que no falte.
-Fueron dos rectángulos, a uno del borde hacia adentro deje 2 cms, marque una línea, luego medí 1 cms en esa línea que sería la guía para hacer unos cortes, de lo que serian las pestañas de la base.
-Para reforzar la base, pegue el otro rectángulo de 13 cms por 60 cms. Le di la forma de circulo o mas bien como un ovalo, porque la cabeza no es totalmente redonda, así le queda mejor, se lo probe al modelo, le quedo bien, así que lo pegue.
-Antes de pegar la base a la tapa, lo pegue antes en otra cartulina, que luego recorte el sobrante, para ahí si pegarlo a la tapa del birrete, que después recorte como un ovalo, para pegarlo por dentro de la base y así no se verían las pestañas, quedo bien.
-Luego pegue cordón dorado en borde abajo y arriba después.
-Ahora el nombre de mi sobrino se llama Meruem. Se ven bonitos en letras cursivas, pero no hay como un patron completo, me gustan que las letras queden gruesas que sean fáciles al recortar y que se vea el nombre.
-Busque letra por letra en la internet, que luego pase y copie en PowerPoint y fui formando el nombre de mi sobrino, me gusto el resultado.
-Yo use varias técnicas recorto el nombre y luego lo pego al foami, pero esta vez lo hice diferente, repase el nombre varias veces, para luego transferirlo al foami dorado escarchado este al revés al igual que el nombre, que lo fui pasando una tijera, al quitarlo se veía el nombre en el foami, lo repase para poder ver bien y recortar.
-Ya tenia el nombre en dorado, lo pegue al derecho sobre la cartulina azul metalizada, lo recorte dejando un pequeño borde, ya recortado, lo pegue sobre el foami blanco, para que resaltara más, así quedo.
-Como lo veía tan sencillo, recorte estrellas en tres colores y los pegue en cada extremo del nombre, el toque perfecto.
-En la tapa, también marque unas estrellas en foami dorado, 4 pequeñas para las esquinas y una mas grande para el centro, donde estaría la punta del cordón para la borla al otro extremo.
-Para la borla, recorte un rectángulo de 20 cms y 4 cms de ancho, dejando un borde de 1 cms, para hacer unos cortes con la tijera muy finos hasta esa línea.
En el extremo del cordón, empiezo a enrollar poniendo silicón, hasta llegar al final y así formar la borla.
Ya quedo listo esperar el acto de promoción, una vez encantada de lo que hago.

I have four nephews, the youngest of whom—Meruem—is graduating from 6th grade. His mom asked me to make his graduation cap. At first, I was just going to redecorate one I already had, but then when I went out to buy the materials, I found some spectacular blue cardstock, so I decided to make a brand-new one from scratch—you’ll see it soon.
Materials:
-Pearlescent blue cardstock.
-Thin gold cord.
-Frosted gold foam sheet.
-Frosted white foam sheet.
-Scrap of mirror-finish metallic blue cardstock.
-Cardstock for reinforcement.
-Hot glue gun and silicone glue sticks.
-Paper, pencil, ruler, scissors.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
This isn’t the first time I’ve made one, but it’s been a long time since I last did. For anyone who enjoys and understands crafts, it’s easy to make.
-I took the measurements from one I had at home, but I modified them since the one I had was smaller. Since my nephew was spending the weekend at our house, I took his measurements and had him try it on as I went.
-The cap consists of two parts: the top and the bottom, or the base, which is cylindrical.
-I marked out two 24-cm squares on the cardstock along all four sides. The supporting cardstock that goes between the other two pieces measured 22 cm along all four sides.
-For the other part of the body, I measured out two rectangles 13 cm wide by 60 cm long.
-First, the cover: the cardboard used as filler is to make it sturdier so it doesn’t bend too much. Glue it to the bottom cover, then glue the top cover on. Along the edges, I applied silicone and used the back of a comb to smooth it out so there were no gaps.
-Since the cover turned out thin, the cord would look too thick. I measured out 26 cm of cord, unrolled it, and ended up with 3 thin strands.
-I carefully glued these silicone cords all around the edge of the cap; I liked how it turned out—just a thin line, but the gold really stood out.
-We’ll leave the cap off for now, since it’s not finished yet, but we’ll get to that later.
-Let’s move on to the body or base of the cap. I measured my nephew’s head circumference, and it came out to about 55 cm, so I rounded it up to 60 cm—better to have a little extra than not enough.
-I cut out two rectangles. I left a 2-cm margin from the edge toward the center, marked a line, then measured 1 cm along that line—which would serve as a guide for making cuts to form the flaps at the base.
-To reinforce the base, glue on the other rectangle measuring 13 cm by 60 cm. I shaped it into a circle—or rather, an oval—because the head isn’t completely round; this way it fits better. I tried it on the model, and it fit well, so I glued it on.
-Before gluing the base to the cap, glue it to another piece of cardstock first, then trim off the excess. After that, glue it to the cap of the graduation cap, then cut it into an oval shape to glue it inside the base so the tabs won’t show. It turned out great.
-Then glue gold trim to the bottom and top edges.
-My nephew’s name is Meruem. It looks nice in cursive, but there isn’t a complete font for it. I like the letters to be bold so they’re easy to cut out and the name is clearly visible.
-I searched for letters one by one online, then copied and pasted them into PowerPoint to put together my nephew’s name. I liked the result.
-I usually use several techniques: I cut out the name and then glue it to the foam, but this time I did it differently. I traced the name several times, then transferred it to the frosted gold foam—which was upside down, just like the name—by running scissors over it. When I removed the paper, the name was visible on the foam, so I traced it again to see it clearly and cut it out.
-I already had the name in gold, so I glued it to the right side of the metallic blue cardstock, cut it out leaving a small border, and once cut out, glued it onto the white foam board to make it stand out more. Here’s how it turned out.
-Since it looked so simple, I cut out stars in three colors and glued them to each end of the name—the perfect finishing touch.
-On the cover, also cut out some stars from gold foam sheet—four small ones for the corners and one larger one for the center, where the end of the cord for the tassel will be attached.
-For the tassel, cut out a rectangle measuring 20 cm by 4 cm, leaving a 1 cm border, and use scissors to make very fine cuts all the way to that line.
At the end of the cord, I start winding it while applying silicone until I reach the end, forming the tassel.
Now I’m all set and just waiting for the graduation ceremony—I’m so thrilled with what I’ve done.
