Vascular dementia

"Vascular dementia, that's the doctor's diagnosis" - That bomb was dropped on the floor by Damien with everyone expectantly waiting for the explosion."

"What, dementia, that's why he couldn't find any more stupid ways how to spend money?" Asked Marianne in amazement.

"Yes, poor dad and us imagining he was hiding a climbing mistress. So many unjustified expenses, So many mood swings, so many forgetfulnesses should have given us the clue and no, we prefer to judge him....."

"But, what is that vascular, did the doctor explain it to you, Damian?"

"Yes, it's a type of dementia that attacks older people who have suffered a cerebrovascular event, especially if they suffer from obesity or diabetes. I will support you, but you will carry the heaviest part since he must go to live at your house, mom will not be able to cope alone with this situation."

"Of course! We must!"- Meanwhile, a tear left the crystal bowl that was reluctant to give way, Marianne struggled to remain even-tempered. What was coming was more enormous than the storm caused by her father's self-sabotage, now they all had to face something akin to Alzheimer's and it was scary.

Demencia vascular

I've retweeted this - and my sympathy to all who have a loved one suffering from dementia.
First my mother-in-law. Now, my dad.
My mom refuses to put him in a home. He's a full-time job, like a toddler, getting into mischief, losing things, putting house keys into tractor ignitions, and diesel into a kerosene heater. She refuses to move. He would need a small army to subdue him and force the old farmer off the farm. Better to be a paraplegic than to live in a body with out a working brain. Or better... no. No matter how old our parents are, who can imagine the final goodbye??
Thank you for a thoughtful post - and what a great illustration!

I am honored that you enjoyed and appreciated it. It is certainly challenging to deal with this type of situation, but parents deserve all the support they can get. I am so sorry that in your family it is happening, it must be very hard.
A hug, dear @carolkean.

It is sad! It has been proven that yes, dementia in the elderly can be a sequel to strokes.
Thank you for reading, @isgledysduarte!
