#SublimeSunday - Music is Never Late!
Through the magic of Hive, I get to celebrate a #SublimeSunday on Tuesday! As spring marches in, so too does the return of the Groove as we whip ourselves into game shape for the ice and stage.
Before meeting up with the guys, I enjoyed a little session with my guitar guy. He has a fantastic studio built in another old hall in a small town. Perfect opportunity for bringing along a 6-pack of local craft shorties.
As it goes, my baby had hung too long on the wall. thin layer of dust, old strings, and the tone/tuning knob needed a little attention. Plays amazing as a guitar but this one has a whole self tuning system that hasn't been charged or used in years. Time for a little visit to the spa.
Mike is a wizard of a guitar technician, even tours with acts you would know. I will save their names for when I get to see them. 'Til then, know he has great taste in guitars and beer.
With the freshly-setup guitar, it was time for a trip on the highway into the big city for a jam. Parts of a few bands throwing together a themed set of music we have never performed.
Smitty loves to shred it up and is warming up some blazing solos for the show. Brand new PRS and head as smooth as ever. Rub it for good luck.
We loaded up on guitar players this year so I get to focus on vocals a little more. Dinzer gets a song or 2 and Alex is the horn section.
Not 100% legal but there are beers in the parking lot as we linger a while longer and discuss next steps, hockey and bullshit.
Apparently I missed the swan parade back home but thankfully town photographer Fred Gonder captured some of the magic. Normally, this is a grand spectacle attended by many hundreds of people as the swans walk from their winter home in the barn down to the water for the season. This year, it was understated and underpromoted so a couple thousand people from across the region don't arrive with their strollers and cameras and bring the plague! Canada geese are already back and making nests right in the middle of everything again so spring must be here finally!
I have the longest drive back home but it is so nice that the sun is deciding to stay up later than 5pm! All in all, 3 hours on the road for an awesome musicy Sunday.
