Happy Family Day!

I figured Family Day was a national holiday but apparently it is only in certain provinces.

Well, here is where it counts and our province adopted the provincial holiday as a mercifully placed long weekend in the middle of a long winter. A little break or extra day dedicated to spending time with family is a damn good thing to take advantage of. We often trek up the highway and pile the cousins into a house for some loud family time. This year, for whatever reason, we stuck close to home for some downtime nd fun.

Free Family Skate!

image.png

This year, most businesses were closed, and the remaining ones had a family day promotion of some sort to encourage people to get out and attend community events. One in particular is a new startup https://drop-in.ca we are partnering with to help promote local events and they were holding a free-skate. What nicer thing could you do for families besides providing a free, fun activity for all to enjoy?

Here are a few shots of the event from the inside.

Here are Tyler and Peter are the new business owners behind the company and this event. You can read a little more about them here https://www.stratfordbeaconherald.com/news/local-news/stratford-business-owners-hosting-free-skate-family-day-weekend-to-introduce-new-venture-to-community

Hopefully, you have nice family holidays where you are. Even better is when there are community events put on by local businesses where hundreds of people get to enjoy a little active fun.

After the couple of years where the community was encouraged not to gather, it was fantastic to see so many people out being active and having fun as a community.

It was more of a promotional event put on by the new company as a nice thing to do and for a little brand recognition. So they foot the bill for the facilities and the treats. They did collect hundreds of food items for the local food bank/house of blessing to it was triply good!

Events bringing communities together always an excellent way to get to know each other once again.

Sounds like a great day.
When I was younger I loved to skate and ski, started when I was a little kid. But unfortunately had to give both up when I blew my ACL playing fifleball with my grandkids , oh well, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nice to see you enjoying your family.

Yah skating is like swimming and eventually paddling up here. Essential hoser life skills. Skiing I learned in highschool and did for a while and I feel bad about not introducing my girls to that.

Now if I can just boot them out of the house to college and lives of their own so we can get a rural home like yours and blow my knees out with grandkids! Not sure it happens that way anymore and I am in rush yet.
