Warhammer 40k - Unit Review Library 29 - Chaos Daemons, Daemonettes

Source

Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

However, on the 26th one, I have decided that it is big enough to call this series a Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:

Chaos Daemons, Daemonettes

10th Edition Index Cards

Next up, I have been randomly selected to review Chaos Daemons – Daemonettes.

Daemonettes are the lesser Daemons of the Chaos God Slaanesh, the Prince of Excess. Known to the Aeldari as “She who thirsts” this Chaos God has no real gender and can morph into the masculine and feminine at will. Slaanesh is neither nor both.

Pleasure and Pain are the same as male and female to this God. Both at the same time and neither. To be entranced by the whiles of this God and its Daemons is to sell your soul willingly into damnation. They beguile, entrance and excite and then they rend you to bloody pieces.

The Daemonettes are meant to transfix mortal men and women with their horrific beauty. They are, in a word: Fast.

On the battlefield and tabletop of the board game they are a Battleline unit that is good at counting as scoring on an objective and they are very fast. I don’t think that they are very durable.

Let’s see why I say this.

Stats

These demons have a base movement of 9” which is massive. It is 3” faster than humans and Space Marines and 2” faster than even the swift Aeldari.

Toughness 3 is human with 1 Wound each and a 7+ save. You cannot roll a 7 on a 6 sided dice and even with Benefit of Cover, getting them a 6+ Save means nothing. They come with a 5+ Invul save which means they will always have a 6+ chance to save, unless its Mortal Wounds/Devastating Wounds.

A 7+ Leadership is medium and OC2 is where their points lie.

Weapons

Daemonettes are exclusively a close combat unit with no Ranged shooting attacks. They have a melee profile with their Razor sharp claws giving you 3 attacks each, hitting on 3+, S4, AP-1 and Damage 1 and Devastating Wounds. Meaning if they hit enough and roll a To Wound roll of a 6, the damage cuts through Saves and Invul Saves.

This is decent with 30 attacks, hitting around 20 of them with approx. 3.3 of them being Devastating. The rest is up to the target. If it were Space Marines it would be about 10 Wounds caused with 3 of them going through as Dev Wounds and the other 7 would be at AP-1.

Abilities

Like all Daemon units, Daemonettes can Deep Strike. They materialize into existence there where you set them down.

Their unit Ability is Swift-taloned Slaughter. They re-roll to Hit rolls of a 1 and when they are within range of an objective, they can re-roll all of the misses!

So outside the objective range this gives them around 1-2 additional hits and 6 additional hits when on an objective.

That is with a full squad and with those stats, they won’t be for long.

Even a good fullisade of pistol fire is likely to thin the ranks. Their speed is for me the most deadly factor. If people do understand combat spacing in relation to M6” units, the Daemonettes will surprise them big time!

If this squad took 10 Boltgun shots shooting at it, on average they will lose 3.4 models. If the squad get’s rapid fire then you can double that to 6-7 dead.

Weapon Abilities

1 Daemonette can carry an Instrument of Chaos which allows the unit to add 1” to their Charge range.
1 Daemonette can carry an Daemonic Icon, this gives the unit Leadership 6+

These are very simple tools. Think of them as permanent buffs for the unit because they will stay on the squad until they are dead and all Chaos players will choose them last to die as surely as I choose my Powerfists to survive till the end.

The Daemonettes cost 110pts for 10 models which I think is quite cheap. While they might not last long when attacked, they might last long enough to do their job because of their speed and because there will be other more terrifying things to shoot at in a Daemon army!

I wish they made the daemonettes a bit tougher, or had an elite version. I've always liked them, although I much prefer the earlier "sexy BDSM" figures to the current ones.

Hehe. They went with a different approach when GW decided to make all their games more kid friendly. There were some models that had some "inappropriate" attributes in those times.

Yep, I can see why they did it, but it's a shame everything has to be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. I'm sure they could have kept the attractiveness without putting anything in that children would notice as obviously risque.....

I hate daemonettes for one simple reason: I can't figure out how to make an Ork Kommando blend. I've done sneaky tinboy, sneaky bloo git (extra lucky!), and sneaky beakie. I have all the parts to make an Ork-stodes. But daemonettes are even more of a challenge than eldar, unless I just have a Boy holding up a magazine centerfold made from the Rule 34 section of 1d4chan.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I suppose with enough paint and gubbins he can try look the part. As long as he belives it! Maybe strap a couple of butchered daemonette remains to him.
