Maledictus Terra Book 2: Sanguifex Part 95
Introduction
Welcome back to Maledicturs Terra. This is a Chain Story between myself and @lex-zaiya, meaning that we each write the parts alternatively.

Part 95
Vitex nodded. "Indeed. I was not near the mortals long but I could sense that there were many ties or loyalty, love and friendship in that room. Except of course of the invader..." She shook her head. "I shall revive the party from their slumber. It seems that I may be seen as... malevolent if I do not give them all their freedom now. Even though they really aught to rest..."
"That would be better, I agree." Mortis said, now taking control of himself. Bellum receded into the background of his mind as though he too was showing restraint and patience.
"Though they will not rest the moment I release them, especially the old mortal and the girl. So restless." Vitex walked into the old church building. "I should love for this place to become halloed once more. I would do better than my... aunt did..." Her voice trailed off as she entered the building.
Mortis stood and watched Millmor. The burly man-form that the Ghoul-King wore portrayed his worry more than his usual form would have. "There is something wrong isn't there? You did not just come here because you felt some undead be destroyed."
Millmor looked at Mortis, his bearded face grim. "I don't exactly have a private conversation with you in the room any more do I?"
"Bellum has been in here for a while now. In the back of my head." Mortis replied. "Since the siege or perhaps after the siege, that's when we could speak to one another. It was because of those Blaze Knights."
"Yeah, they holy knights all thought of you as their real saviour. So you became the symbol for martial prowess and purity." Millmor answered.
See? He gets it. I am not a bad guy.
Millmor scratched his head. "Did you say Bellum? The God of Warriors and Warfare. Derric's family is old and the Temples of Bellum were all empty in the days I was a youngster and the Kingdom was not cursed. There was a the last temple in a forest a few day's travel to the north of Dragonshold. I actually passed through that area on the way here."
"We camped at that temple. It seemed really old and in ruins. Are you really that old?" Mortis said, his voice was usually unable to show very emotional inflections but Millmor grinned.
"Our curse has made me last very long but yes... I am that old after all." Millmor walked to the church. "I need to be there when Derric wakes up. Let me at least bear witness to my Prince's decision."
Magna opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling for a long time.
It was over. Her uncle's Kingdom was freed of the curse and what was more, a beautiful and gentle Goddess was freed from a curse.
That is if any God can be trusted. She thought. As far as I can see, they are also the reason curses are born. Maybe the world would be better without any interference from the Gods. She thought about her connection to the cursed God of fire and what had happened because of it. The battle of the Avatars. The people that died.
What was worse was the devotion people had showed to this perverse being that saw them all as nothing more than fodder and tools.
The thing that wanted her as its Champion.
She was about to get angry and then she realized that this is what the Fiery one likes and what he feeds on. She relaxed on purpose... a bit in spite. She was sure that spite also pleased it, but less so that explosive rage.
She would find a way to snuff it out.
There was movement in the room and she could hear others beginning to move around in the room. Light footsteps entered the room and with it came a smell of fresh spring flowers and sunshine even though it was night outside.
