Maledictus Terra Book 2: Sanguifex Part 91
Introduction
Welcome back to Maledicturs Terra. This is a Chain Story between myself and @lex-zaiya, meaning that we each write the parts alternatively.

Part 91
Mortis had a growing sense of unease as he watched the Goddess move. She was cured of her curse, yet there remained a hard line of inhumanity in her. The impression that her needs and wants were far beyond the understanding of a mortal, even an undead King who was hundreds of years old, was unshakable.
She was a Goddess of nature, perhaps for that reason she did not seem to care much about humanity and mortal, but this was mere speculation.
I commend you for trying to figure it out. It is however, not something a mortal can understand.
Mortis looked at the pointed eared woman, her smile seemed serene and yet somewhat hard.
"What Bellum says is correct. Right now is not time for you to try operate at our level. I do not think of you as arrogant for trying. I know well what your oath and duty is. However, there are some things that even you cannot know of."
"Very well. Have your privacy. If there are things that affect my family, you know what I would do to protect them and ensure their prosperity. It is the way of living beings." Mortis said simple.
The Goddess laughed, a sound that was gentle and beautiful. "Indeed, such correct wording for that condition. It was I that instilled this trait in mortals. The deer and the wolf are both part of nature and both desire the need to survive. Both would contest one another to ensure the life and well being of their kin."
"Are we as animals to you?" Mortis asked.
She frowned. "Sometimes I feel offended when humans ask or say things like that. You think too much of yourselves. Tell me, do you think of the trained dog as a more deserving creature than a deer? Is there a massive difference between one creature under your care than another? You are all part of this world, the creatures that we spawned into this plane."
I do not think that we have time to discuss all this philosophy.
"My apologies Brother. It has been a long time since I have been able to think of anything except hate and hunger. I have found this conversation, even with this mortal to be stimulating. I am not completely awakened yet."
Indeed. Mortis, sleep now. It is time that my sister and I converse alone.
And then Mortis was cast away from his body. The God has said sleep but it was not like it would be for Magna and the others, where they would be met with dreams. Instead Mortis felt a momentary contentment as he was laid to rest as though he was entering the grave to rest forever more, his duty done.
The sensation was spoiled only by the feeling that he knew that his duty was not yet done and that he would need to wake soon once more.
There was nothing he could do... but wait.
Blankness consumed his thoughts.
