Friday night food! Chicken, sausage and Sweet Potato fries!

Good evening everyone. Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa. The power is out, so I am posting this via the ecency app on my phone, so forgive any editing errors or for me making this brief.

This evening I am cooking and I decided to make chicken pieces and sweet potato fries... then realized the with the 5 of us eating that the chicken was not going to be enough so I added a pack of sausage as well.

As I like doing, I crafted my own sauce by brazing and caramalizing some chopped onion, then adding braai spice and braai sauce to the mix with a bit of water.

I poke the chicken full of holes and its ready to go into the pan.

Meanwhile I peeled and hand cut my own sweet potato fries!
Do remember that when making these, their cooking time is a half of that of potato chips.

Everything is done. Now its time to serve up and we watched Sweet Tooth on Netflix.

Kyk, dit is maar die ongelukkige gedeelta van n klein dorp. Goed wat nie inneems is nie, is duurder.

Julle behoort eintlik skaap velegoedkooper daar te kan koop as hier in Wes-Kaap.

My man werk by n slaghuis hy sê dis hier by ons so R130 p/kg shoe julle vleis is ook duur. Mar ja orals is als duur.

Yep.

Ons kry fairly goeie pryse op vark en honder.

Vark is gewoontlik so R59p/kg-R65p/kg maar op special R49 en vandag selfs vir R39p/kg gesien!

Hoender... tussen R45-R70 p/kg.

Shoe van dit is goedkoop by julle. Hier by ons is van die goed Mar duur. Ons koop gewoonlik by Ander mense hoender. Mar soos die stuk hoender lyk so groot bly dit as ek dit gaar maak. Groot stukke en lekker. So R66 p/kg.

Two reasons.

One is I cooked the sausage with the chicken in sauce. Usually sausage does not get marinaded.

Second is that my oven is only half-working at the moment. It doesnt make much heat until you use the grill function and that makes what is facing up brown or burn really fast. So I have to toggle it on and off and turn the meat a lot.

So what then happens is all the sticky sauce sticks to the outside of the sausage and browns on it.
