DIY - Small DIY jobs and bigger ones coming up

avatar

Good day everyone. The is Zak from Cape Town, South Africa.

I have not really had the time to do a LOT od DIY around the house or take on any of the bigger projects that I would have liked to do. But, I did make some progress this last week.

I think that if you set aside just 30mins or so every day and consistently do something that needs doing, soon enough the jobs start to get done.

I had some of these jobs just waiting to be done but since I can't get a DAY where the stars line up and I have a free preiod to myself, I decided to start doing little tasks instead.

Here is how it went:

Matthew's Drawers

Most of the handles were missing from this chest. Subsequently this made my son a bit lazy with packing away clothing neatly... he has less excuses now. lol

I need another 2 and I might replace the old ones so they look uniform and then keep the other ones as spare or use it for another project.

There is plenty more work I can do to that piece of furniture. It is peeling as you can see and I could also paint it.

Bathroom towel hook

The original hook was ripped out of the back of the door because too much weight was placed on it. I have now mounted the hook to a board and the board is attached to the door. 4 screws and wood glue!

This little job has been waiting to be done for MONTHS. And yet it was quick to do!

Big Job coming up! Guitar Rack

We have too many guitars in the house and they are all over the place. I want to create a guitar rack that will keep them neat and keep them protected. You don't want these things to fall over!

This is what happens when you have a musician and singer in the house - @clairemobey. Eventually each kid has their own guitar as well and there is more than one type!

The Current big job - Table restoration

A while the table we got in the garden when we moved in collapsed. We use this table as garden furniture near the braai to put things on.

It collapsed and the parts have been laying in the garage for a while now.

I have rebuilt the frame and am currently busy sanding it all.

I do not have the clamps or a workbench available that will allow me to glue the board back together again. Instead I think I will get more of the same screws and make sure all the boards have 2x anchors to the frame. There will be little gaps but I will varnish the whole thing and hopefully they will fill up the gaps.

I want to use this non-permanent solution because I can try doing it the other way once I have the correct tools.

In any case, a rebuilt and sturdy frame, a stable top and a varnished surface should make this last for a few years.

I have finished sanding the boards and need to sand the frame still... I should have done this before I fixed the frame but oh well.

More upcoming jobs!

Here is some of the tripped pallet wood that I will use to make the guitar stand. There are many other projects that I want to do with this wood... one of which need to be something that will help me store more of this wood...

Thank you for reading!

Keep crafting!

Cheers!
