Это место мы облюбовали на карте Брянской области ещё давно. Очень уж красиво здесь в любое время года. Бывший город-крепость Вщиж – настоящий рай для художника. Но попали мы сюда прошлой осенью совершенно случайно, свернув с трассы по пути из Смоленска в Брянск.
We have chosen this place on the map of the Bryansk region for a long time. It is very beautiful here at any time of the year. The former fortress city of Vshchizh is a real paradise for the artist. But we got here last fall by accident, turning off the highway on the way from Smolensk to Bryansk.
Как оказалось, как раз в это время здесь проходила небольшая ярмарка, где продавались предметы старо-русских ремёсел. Гуляя по вершине холма над рекой, можно часами любоваться красотами, которые открываются взору.
As it turned out, just at that time there was a small fair where items of old Russian crafts were sold. Walking along the top of the hill above the river, you can spend hours admiring the beauties that open up to the eye.
Много-много лет назад на этом самом холме стояла деревянная крепость. Много лет служила она форпостом из-за набегов неприятельских войск, но однажды была сожжена и превратилась в пепел. Ничего не уцелело на этом месте, потому что в ту пору все дома и постройки также строились из дерева. Зато сегодня здесь стоит памятный крест, где кратко описана история событий прошлых времён. А неподалёку есть скромная церковь, где добрая матушка всегда поднесёт воды усталому путнику.
Many,many years ago, a wooden fortress stood on this hill. For many years it served as an outpost due to the raids of enemy troops, but one day it was burned and turned into ashes. Nothing has survived on this place, because at that time all the houses and buildings were also built of wood. But today there is a memorial cross here, where the history of the events of past times is briefly described. And there is a modest church nearby, where a kind mother will always bring water to a tired traveler.

Yes, it was cloudy during the trip to that fair. We went there last year.
