Life is a game.
Life is a challenge.
Life is a journey.
Many other sayings: chaos, movie, story etc.
Regardless of what it is to you, moments come when you find yourself on crossroads. You feel stuck, you don't know how to move forward. You don't know what you really want to do with your life.

Maybe you want to move to a new city or country. It could also be that you want to start a new project or endeavor but you don't know whether it is the right thing to do. Where did the desire or urge come from by the way?

The Dilemma

If you ask people around you. The advice they give you most of the time is based on how they see the world and their interests which is quite different from yours. It's bias and not very accurate. We all know of Mark who took advice from his best friend only to realize it was complete nonsense half a decade down the line. You wish you hadn't listen to them but that's what you get if you don't make it yourself.

So how do you make the right choice? Let's first see how do you know a choice is right. A choice is right because when felt from the inside it feels right. There is an inner certitude. Right choices are always hard in the beginning. It requires a huge effort from you in order to not be swayed into the the wrong choice. Your mind keeps making up reasons why you should not make that choice but intuitively the certitude is there. Certitude that this is the right choice without a shadow of doubt.

The Technique

How do you really make the right choice? This is a simple technique that I use every time I find myself at crossroads.

Keep in mind that simple does not always mean easy.

  • Close off everything that's coming from the outside, preferably be at a very quite place.

  • Turn your focus from outward to inward.

  • Ask yourself what is the right choice?

  • Do not force the answer, let it come out effortlessly.

We all have that inner voice with us. That voice that speaks to us truthfully and sensibly with certainty. The reason we can't recognize it is because we can't differentiate it from the 'blah blah blah' of the mind.

When you turn inward and listen silently, the voice flows like a gushing river.
