They gave me a bill of $200

One of the most frustrating times of my life as an adult has to be when I need to get new glasses. Due to the severity of my eye defect, I’m required to get regular check-ups but thankfully, my last 2 check-ups which were 2 years apart brought the same result.

I’ve been thinking about getting new glasses since I got the last one 3 years ago and so I decided to go for a check-up today. Unfortunately, the last place I had them checked closed down so I went searching for a new place.

I found one that seemed decent enough but after registering I realised that their price would be thrice as much as the normal price. They had a lot of fancy equipment and told me a lot of stuff that I was already aware of and brought an outrageous bill in the end.

Basically, what I got from the entire test was the fact that my eyes are still the same and haven’t exactly deteriorated or improved after 3 years. I told them all the other tests weren’t relevant but they insisted and I had to pay extra for them. I was so upset.

In the end, I got the information I wanted. They gave me a bill of $200 for glasses lenses alone which I found outrageous and silly. I know my prescription is incredibly high but it has never been so high that I’d need to pay such an amount.

I eventually called a friend and got the contact of someone willing to get it done for $30 for 2 pairs. I also ordered glasses frames for $17 which should be delivered in a few days so in total, I’ll only be paying $47 for the entire thing.

I always feel sad whenever I go for an eye test because my eyes are so bad that they always see me as a cash cow and for a while it just kept getting worse. Thankfully, I didn’t feel so bad today even though the optician made a statement about the possibility of me having glaucoma in a few years.

I’ve been going to opticians for years and none of them have ever told me such a thing so I figured this lady simply wanted to milk me as much as she could. She also mentioned booking me for surgery but I completely ignored her.

My plan is to get an eye correction surgery in a few years but I’m not in a position to make those plans yet. When I can, I will and I’ll get it all done. Until then, I’ll make do with my pretty frames and extremely thick lenses.
