Putting personal projects behind

Taking up a personal project in the midst of several paid projects can be tough. You get so distracted by people’s paid projects that you can’t even find the time or space for your real project. It’s even more stressful when your dream project is challenging to start.

A few months ago, I came up with an amazing podcast that I wanted to begin. I made the effort to find some possible guests to who I plan on sending individual messages soon but first, I wanted to get my branding done.

I realised that anytime I wanted to properly work on the project, I’d get contacted for a paid gig. I need the money first so I’d put my project aside and work on something else. This has happened twice now and today it happened a third time.

Between last night and this morning, I was able to come up with a better name, get a friend to make a suitable logo, set up my Youtube channel and come up with a goal and proper schedule for each show. However, sometime this morning, I got contacted for a job that I’ll need to start next week.

This job isn’t going to be such a big deal for me because the pay is less than $45 so I need to get it out of the way as quickly as possible while I conclude on my 3 other pending jobs and get started with my personal project.

Additionally, I’ve recently been promised another job by a different friend which I may be starting in 2 weeks but this is mostly going to be grunt work that can be done within 2 or 3 hours in a day. I just hope I’ll be able to shuffle everything I need to do and not break down in between.

But in the meantime, my major goal is to properly get 3 of these tasks off my plate completely so I can focus on the new ones I’ll be getting. Still hoping for a foreign gig soon too. One really good foreign job can save me the stress of taking many low-paying gigs.

All-in-all, I’m glad the jobs are now coming in. I have a lot of updates to make on my resume and portfolio now.
