My Gavin's dead

Last Sunday my dog died and I never imagined that the death of a pet could make me and my entire family as sad as it did. Although we’ve casually had the conversation about him dying at some point, we didn’t think it would come so soon.

Gavin became a part of my family on February 2nd, 2021. He came in as a 6-month-old puppy who looked way too big to be a puppy but he behaved like one. He quickly got attached to me because I fed him often and cleaned up his home.

He became my baby. I’d leave him alone with my parents for months and the joy on his face whenever I returned would always fill my heart. His love for me was so obviously genuine and real. He considered me a person he had to protect whenever I took him out on walks.

He was an obedient pet. Although he did some naughty things like destroying my mom’s washing machine twice and wrecking our trash often. He responded when you called him and left when you told him to. He was gotten as a security dog but his love for everyone who wasn’t a threat was intense.

Gavin was so gentle with everyone. He never got aggressive for food or any other thing. He knew when it was time to get into his home and when it was time to come out. He was so soft inside and out.

He’s the first dog I ever got to love and anyone who knows me knew my affection towards him. I spent a lot of money on him when I needed to, without regret. His love for me made it all worth it.

I’m now left with just my female dog, Raven. She’s about 10 months old now and can’t seem to fathom the absence of Gavin yet. She isn’t used to being the only dog around but she’ll have to get used to it, unfortunately.

Thankfully, I recently got to find out that Gavin had some babies with a different dog so we’ll be getting 2 of his kids in the next 7 weeks. Although they’re not him, their presence might help ease the loss of him.

Big hug for you. Losing a dog is not different from losing a family member, and just the same way, I can tell you they don't go anywhere, they remain with us always. Treasure your memories, feelings and the learning you received! Blessings!
