Hacking the game of life

I have a lot of funny memories and sometimes, I replay them in my head but with different conditions. For instance, I recently replayed the memory of the first day I stepped into my University classroom as a Fresher, however, I replayed it with my current mindset.

That singular act made me realise that I would most likely have not only graduated with better grades but I would have also had different friends and made a lot more memories. I wouldn’t have held myself back and postponed a lot of fun activities.

I remember a certain conversation I had with a coursemate where we talked about how we’d be different when we graduated. We believed that there was a certain light that would be found at the end of that tunnel. Safe to say that we were wrong.

In recent months, I’ve made a promise to myself to no longer postpone fun. Although my finances have been bleeding, I make it a duty to always have just a sensible amount of fun within one weekend of every month.

As adults, I can understand how difficult it is to do the things that make us happy. Life always happens at the times we least expect it, bills pile up and we begin to see the need to always be serious. However, what’s the point?

When we begin to realize that at the end of everything we’re currently hustling and struggling for is death, it should put it all into perspective. Those last moments on our deathbeds won’t be filled with memories of bills we paid but with moments we’ve shared and the faces of the people we’ve shared them with.

So, I’m making it a duty, an expensive duty, to create as many of these moments as I possibly can. Sometimes it takes a lot of planning and other times, there’s a certain amount of regret at the end but I always get over it and keep moving forward. I may or may not make back the money I spend but I’m not going to stop myself just because of that.
