Desde hace mas de cinco años no sentía algo parecido, este fin de semana fue increíble, finalmente pude volver a mi tierra. Los años 2017, 2018 fueron bastantes complicados en el país, esos años fueron los momentos de escases de alimentos, el transporte colapsó, la economía venezolana estaba fracturada y muchos mas. Luego se unió la pandemia y lo demás es la historia que ustedes saben.

Ahora mismo podemos ver algunas cosas que han "mejorado", sin ánimos de entrar en política. Para mi lo mas importante es que pude ir a Curarigua la tierra que me vio crecer. Un pueblo colonial ubicado al oeste del estado Lara en Venezuela, tres horas aproximadamente desde Barquisimeto la capital del estado.

For more than five years I have not felt something like this, this weekend was incredible, finally I could return to my homeland. The years 2017, 2018 were quite complicated in the country, those years were the times of food shortages, transportation collapsed, the Venezuelan economy was fractured and many more. Then the pandemic joined and the rest is history you know.

Right now we can see some things that have "improved", without wanting to get into politics. For me the most important thing is that I was able to go to Curarigua, the land where I grew up. A colonial town located in the west of Lara state in Venezuela, about three hours from Barquisimeto, the capital of the state.

Gran parte de la familia se trasladó en carros particulares, la otra en la que me incluyo, tuvimos que rentar una buseta para que nos realizara el acarreo privado. Los fines de semana viaja un autobús haciendo la ruta pública, sin embargo llega hasta el pueblo. En realidad mi familia es de "Campo Alegre" un caserío hijo de "Curarigua de Leal", pero que se ubica a mas de una hora de donde termina la carretera asfaltada. Por tanto, es un logro que el servicio fuese de punta a punta como decimos allá.

A large part of the family traveled in private cars, the other part, including myself, had to rent a bus for private transportation. On weekends a bus travels the public route, however it does go all the way to town. Actually my family is from "Campo Alegre", a hamlet of "Curarigua de Leal", but it is located more than an hour away from the end of the paved road. Therefore, it is an achievement that the service was from end to end as we say there.

El recorrido comienza en la autopista Florencio Giménez de Barquisimeto, la ciudad queda atrás por espacio de casi dos horas de camino hasta llegar a la entrada de Curarigua. Es solo la entrada, puesto hay que recorrer 27 kilómetros por una carretera vieja pero generosa pues desde que se llega regala su mejor rostro, el olor a montaña, el color del araguaney y el saludo del turpial que se posa sobre los cardones.

Entre las anécdotas está que la buseta no fue la mejor que pudimos encontrar, pues tuvimos que caminar cuando se asomaban las pendientes en las que no era posible subir con todo dentro. Así que , tocaba caminar y pues entre risas y echaderas de bromas tomar algunas fotografías.

The tour begins on the Florencio Giménez highway in Barquisimeto, the city is left behind for almost two hours until you reach the entrance to Curarigua. It is only the entrance, since you have to travel 27 kilometers along an old but generous road, since from the moment you arrive it gives its best face, the smell of the mountain, the color of the araguaney and the greeting of the turpial that perches on the cactus.

Among the anecdotes is that the bus was not the best we could find, because we had to walk when the slopes were looming where it was not possible to climb with everything inside. So, we had to walk and then, between laughs and jokes, we had to take some pictures.

Seguimos caminando, esta vez en la carretera de tierra. El sol resplandeciente y el verano cada vez apretando con mas fuerza. // We continue walking, this time on the dirt road. The sun is shining and the summer is getting stronger and stronger.

La travesía fue larga, pero a Dios gracias pudimos llegar. El fin de semana en "Campo Alegre" iniciaba temprano con una misa católica, después de la misma todos nos debíamos ir a la casa familiar para degustar un buen almuerzo, el menú un sopado de chivo dispuestos en cuatro ollas inmensas para que alcanzase para toda la gente del campo y los caseríos vecinos. Para la noche ya estaba instalado un sonido, la contratación de un cantante de música bailable y la guinda del pastel un grupo de música criolla con la compañía del cuatro, el tambor, las maracas y la mandola.

The journey was long, but thank God we made it. The weekend in "Campo Alegre" started early with a catholic mass, after which we all had to go to the family house to enjoy a good lunch, the menu was goat soup prepared in four huge pots so that there was enough for all the people of the countryside and the neighboring villages. For the night a sound system was already installed, a dance music singer was hired and the icing on the cake was a group of Creole music with the company of the cuatro, the drum, the maracas and the mandola.

Pero antes el saludo con los primos, los tíos, los amigos, y demás. Tanto tiempo sin compartir con algunos, era como estar en un sueño, los abrace a todos, no faltó alguno con el cual no cruzara al menos un par de palabras para ponernos al día. También era importante organizar este gentío que estaba llegando como en los viejos tiempos, pero en medio de todo siempre sacando espacio para dejar grabado el momento.

But first I had to greet cousins, uncles, aunts, uncles, friends, and others. It was like being in a dream, I hugged them all, there was no one with whom I did not exchange at least a couple of words to catch up. It was also important to organize this crowd that was arriving as in the old days, but in the middle of everything always taking space to record the moment.

El itinerario estaba copado, la gente no cabía en el caserío, los corazones palpitaban sin cesar agradeciendo a la divinidad que nuestra "Mama Segunda Camacaro" estaba completando sus 88 Años de vida en esta tierra. Nadie se lo podía perder, se realizo un trabajo de organización familiar para que todos pudiéramos acompañar ahí de cerca. En medio de sorpresas una tras otra las lagrimas iban sorprendiendo a mas de uno. Así que tocaba respirar, seguir riendo con todos y por todo. ¡Apenas estaba comenzando el fin de semana!

The itinerary was full, people could not fit in the farmhouse, hearts were beating incessantly thanking the divinity that our "Mama Segunda Camacaro" was completing her 88 years of life on this earth. No one could miss it, a work of family organization was done so that we could all be there closely. In the midst of surprises one after another, tears were surprising more than one. So it was time to breathe, to keep laughing with everyone and for everything. ***The weekend was just beginning!
