Your Absence on My Skin

Image

I painted your smile on bare walls,
your name I signed as a promise.
Promises danced in my veins,
a sweet lethargy between cold sheets.
I curled up behind your bones, behind your back seeking warmth
but you left me cold when you left, the bed a desert.
I blinded my door with ribbons and prayers,
but to no avail - when I awoke you were gone.
With a thousand gestures we said without noise,
Our thin hands sifted words.
Tides we invented, ships sailing,
your lips an ocean in which I evaporated.
Still your silhouette in every step lives on,
and in every pore your memory is embedded.
Thus on my skin your absence is tattooed,
an endless poem that never leaves you.
