There was so much cold

There was so much cold, an icy blanket,
between the two of us, an endless abyss,
that we froze, instantly,
our hearts and infinite words.
In silence, lost in the cold
our feelings were trapped,
like ice statues, unchallenged,
in that cruel winter we have created.
The words, so warm and sincere,
became echoes of the past,
and in the abyss, they were lost in their entirety.
But in my chest, a heartbeat still beats,
a glimmer of love that has not frozen,
waiting for the warmth that has been kept from us.
