Advantages of assertive communication in the educational environment

In the teaching-learning process there are multiple situations that merit putting assertive communication into practice. For this reason, teaching requires a set of skills such as empathy and respect for others, virtues that must be present in order to adapt to the pedagogical needs of the student as he/she goes through the learning process.

In this sense, communication is important, since it maintains a balance in the teacher-student relationship. Assertiveness allows us to have excellent communication without excessive permissiveness or authoritarianism.

Assertiveness can be defined as a type of effective communication that takes place between two or more people. In this process a high quality and safe communication is carried out without incurring in extreme aspects such as intolerance, aggressiveness or shouting. Therefore, it is a recommended model to be used in the classroom.

Assertive communication handles important aspects such as the management of information in an effective way according to the child's age and capabilities. This is transcendental, since according to this a high impact communication can be developed.

Based on this criterion, the teacher should know that assertive communication has two important aspects such as emotional intelligence and social competence. This is important that the teacher incorporates it in his educational work and will serve as learning to his students that communication is better within the respect, tolerance and understanding between peers.

On the other hand, in order to have assertive communication in the classroom, it is advisable to establish clear rules that the student knows and understands, avoid shouting and bad answers, and learn from an early age that all emotions are valid. They should be taught to resolve conflicts without violence, promote respect as the key to good communication and encourage self-esteem.

It is also important that the teacher promotes learning strategies that encourage assertive communication through team games, forums, debates and games on conflict resolution.

All these learning activities help to cement strategies that foster in the child a balanced form of communication within the parameters of respect and good coexistence, which is important for an emotionally intelligent society.
