RE: Who OWNS Mars, Anyway?

Another big question is: who owns all of the asteroids in the asteroid belt. This second question might have a bigger impact on space exploration.

I think space exploration will begin with a repeat of the colonial experience where different countries try to lay claim to resources in space. We will probably hear a bunch of Marxian professors at universities squealing their hatred of property rights.

I hope we eventually develop some sort of homestead policy which give preference to the people who actually travel into space to develop resources preference over the resources.
