The clock tower, with a height of 22 meters, was designed in 1920 by the American architect George Duncan and was executed by the Cuban architect Eduardo Tella. Its construction was completed in 1924. It is made of Jaimanitas stone and topped by a four-sided tile roof.
Its four faces show the main compass bearings. Its machinery, located in a lower floor, moves the hands by means of a transmission system. The clock can work with the winding that is given to it for a period of approximately 72 hours. It is the only one in Cuba with a mechanism by means of which music and time are synchronized, with chimes every quarter of an hour.
