Hello market Friday lovers,
It's my first post in the community and I hope to have a really good time here.
Seeing that it's the end of the year celebration which rounds up with the new year celebration, the prices of goods here in Nigeria tend to be on a high side especially food items. Every year, my family would prepare a meal with chicken for visiting friends and neighbors, it's more like a family tradition to ensure that we make meals enough for our neighbors. Today, I went chicken shopping at Etan's family farm in Uyo, AkwaIbom State. The farm breeds more of livestock than crops, ranging from crockerels, broilers, turkey, fish, pigs, snails etc.

One would ask why chicken; apart from the fact that many people tend to use chicken more in celebration, health wise chicken is recommended for all ages of humans as it is regarded as white meat and having a low level of cholesterol compared to red meat e.g beef

It would surprise you to know that even the cost of our locally breed fowl ranges from 4500ngn - 8000ngn ($8 - $15) against 3000ngn as at last year.

The manager noticed my surprise at the prices he mentioned, he took me to a section where the chicken had been killed, washed and cut in pieces for the purpose of subsidizing prices for persons who couldn't afford the whole chicken. This is really a good innovation and great marketing strategy. They also provided services of de-feathering the entire chicken, saving you the stress of doing it on your own.

I finally bought 3 chickens that cost me 13,500ngn and they will be killed and prepared and delivered to me tomorrow by 8am.
I also sighted this beautiful turkey at the farm

Welcome to #MarketFriday @yhuddee111! That was an interesting post for me as I have not gone to a poultry farm in a while. Believe it or not, your chicken is more expensive than ours is. Ours actually went down in price for 2021, it was higher in 2020. I can honestly say I didn't even realize it as everything is so expensive now.

I think chicken is a fine meal, especially when you have company. It is so much easier and less expensive for me to make for a crowd of people. To be honest, in the US, the majority of the chicken is sold in its' plucked and cut state, put into packages it is approximately 1.50 a pound on average. I looked it up on the internet as I thought it was more, but, they are going on a national average.

It is nice that you can select the chicken you want, it allows for the healthiest/robust-looking one, yes? What a great deal for you, having them take care of it and deliver it to you! You made out well will your shopping this day! Thank you for sharing the process!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through by their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Chicken is expensive nowadays. Today I bought 0.162 kg chicken breast, and it was 259 HUF, which is currently $0.80 USD, because $1 USD is currently 324.19 HUF.

I bought it in a Spar supermarket.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings from Hungary.

I think it's the cost of chicken feed that is responsible for the raise.
Thanks for stopping by

We used to raise our own chickens, but mostly we kept egg-laying hens. We only raised meat birds once. They are very greedy, and the butchering process was a lot of work and a big mess. I prefer to buy them at the store with the feathers gone!
