Why is 25 December 2021 important?
On December 25, 2021, the world's largest and most advanced telescope was sent into space. The telescope, which was built with 30 years and 10 billion dollars spent, is 100 times more powerful than the Hubble telescope. It will enable us to learn things we never knew before about how galaxies and planets were formed. To understand how important this event is, we must first review what we know. In 1990, the Hubble telescope was sent into space. This telescope, a hundred times the size of the human eye, was the telescope that recorded the images of space we have seen so far. Scientists began to wonder about the dark areas that the Hubble telescope could not see. For 11 days on September 24, 2003, scientists pointed the Hubble telescope to a small dark area in the sky. Even in that tiny dark region, they noticed hundreds of thousands of galaxies and billions of stars, and that magnificent image “Hubble Deep Field” appeared. Even this revealed that all that was known about space was different.
Alright what now ? A much larger eye, 6.5 meters in diameter, will be sent into outer space 1.5 million kilometers away. An eye will be placed to show us our past and who we are. And it will go down in history as the day the universe changed.
