Hello dear hivers, I hope you are well, I continue my wanderings in Sancti Spiritus, neighboring province of my home in Ciego de Avila, Cuba. This time I went to visit El Pelú de Mayajigua, a very natural tourist center named after a local legend that I will soon tell you about.

I made this trip with my partner @edeyglezsosa, we arrived very early accompanied by friends and family who had previously rented a bus to transport us, because it is a very long trip but exciting to be surrounded by pure forest and mountains.

I was impressed by the unevenness of the terrain since to access from the ranchón to the river as such it was necessary to cross a rudimentary bridge built by the workers of the center, but even more interesting was a stairway formed by the roots of the trees of approximately 8 meters high, which reached the river bank, to which only had to add the handrails to ensure the safety of bathers during the descent.
There is a ranchón (house with a guano roof, but without walls) where you can enjoy a variety of gastronomic offers.

I really wanted to climb the mountain, but first I took a quick dip in the river to cool off the heat so I could climb with more energy and momentum.

It was time to go up and we headed there, it was a very steep hill, I had to take off my flip-flops because it was slippery, although the stones bothered me because I was barefoot I had the adrenaline to get to the top.

You had to follow the marked path because to the sides were like small ravines that if you slipped you rolled down, everything was green and a silence that was scary, well, I had a little jjj that happens to me by watching too many horror movies.
Finally I got to the top, and I could see the much talked about Pelú de Mayajigua and I took the opportunity to take pictures of this moment.

Legend has it that this man named Enrique de Jesus Rodriguez, was an alzado of the war of 1868 and in 1869 he was wounded in the hills near the Jatibonico del Norte River (this river) and managed to crawl and hide in these mountains where he recovered, but seeing how the war was and the rawness of the fighting, he decided to stay there and away from society, so he kept a hermit's life.

The descent was a little faster, but arriving almost at the bottom we saw another path and decided to explore, this one took us to an area farther away from the people, it was also part of the river, but here it was not advisable to bathe because of the large rocky area and the water was more turbid and stagnant.

We returned with our travel companions and told them everything we had seen so that they could also enjoy the surroundings and the spectacular views. We got into the water, which was a little cold since it comes down from the mountains, and there we stayed playing and sharing until it got dark and it was time for us to return home.
