Evening

So after a month of rumor swirling, twitter finally announced enabling its much anticipated Bitcoin tipping service. Bitcoin tipping service will be available globally for all Apple iOS users from this week and for for Android user in coming this week.
Twitter will be using Strike API integration to enable the tipping service. Strike is a Bitcoin wallet app that runs on Lightning Network.

Jack Mallers, CEO of Strike wrote on his Medium account:

Yo. Today I am unbelievably excited to announce the Strike API and Strike’s first API partner, Twitter. Today, Twitter enables free, instant, global payments for their users with their integration of the Strike API. Starting today, Twitter will allow all iOS users around the globe to send tips over the Lightning Network. The Strike Tips integration, allowing users to receive global tips through their Twitter account, will begin to roll out on iOS today and expand to all users including Android over the coming weeks.

The Bitcoin part of the tipping will be on Lightning network, a layer 2 scaling solution offering speed, scalability and lower transaction cost. Twitter will not take any cut of the Bitcoin tipped via this service.
The announcement is hardly surprising as Twitter had already been testing tipping service for months now and moreover the CEO Jack Dorsey is a big fan of the Bitcoin.
However there are huge concerns regarding twitter's censorship policy but Bitcoin tipping option is a step in right direction nonetheless. We have still got to see how decentralized world interact with centralized twitter and what will be the outcome?

Fingers Crossed 🤞
