William Tell Three Tune Tuesday
It's Tuesday, and that means it's #ThreeTuneTuesday, a wonderful day brought about by @ablaze. Three Tune Tuesday is a day to share some of your favourite tunes with the Hive ecosystem, and everyone involved never fails to disappoint.
For Three Tune Tuesday this week I am continuing to share some of my favourite pre-1923 songs on nostalgic 78 rpm records. The music on these records were all recorded acoustically, meaning they did not yet have the ability to use electric amplification, and they are all played on nostalgic wind-up, spring powered phonographs. The only 'electric' part of this process is when I record the music!
We're going way, way back to 1910 for these. The William Tell Overture was written by Gioachino Rossini in 1829 and ostensibly tells the story of a Swiss national named William and, ultimately, the Swiss uprising against Austria.
The overture is written in four parts, three of which I am sharing here. The first, Dawn, represents literally the dawn of a new day.
The second part of the overture, not shared here, is entitled Storm, and is a loud affair full of chaotic violins and violas to represent a magnificent storm. Of course, all storms must come to an end and, when they do, there is Calm, which is the name of the third part of the Overture. Ironically, this third part is often used in more modern media to depict the dawn!
The overture was initially written to be played without pause between parts, but each part still had a distinct beginning and end, leaving each part between 2 to 4 minutes in length. This happens to be the perfect length for a 78 rpm record, with each side able to hold up to 4 minutes of music. It really was like the overture was written for phonographs in mind.
The last part of the overture is guaranteed to be recognised. Guaranteed. Try me.
And there we have it!
I play these songs live on Blind Skeleton internet radio every Tuesday. Feel free to tune in!

Although nowadays the sound tries to be as pure as possible, I can't help but love the sound of these audios with that background noise, it's very interesting and charming to me.
I had the opportunity to live the era of acetate records and if I could also ever look and listen to a 45 rpm acetate record, thank you for bringing classical music in one of its purest states.
Your way of participating in the TTT is brilliant!
Thank you very much! I'm certainly having a lot of fun with it. Hopefully I can keep drumming up an audience for the live show!
