Three Tune Tuesday - Music from 1912

It's time again for Three Tune Tuesday, that day of the week where members of the Hive community shares three songs of their liking with the rest of the community.

I take a slow, relaxing approach to Three Tune Tuesday: I like to share pre-1924 78rpm songs from my collection, and record them while playing on an appropriate time-period windup phonograph. I encourage you to take a few moments and slow down with me. Settle down, close your eyes, and take yourself back.. way back.. in time, to a distant uncle's parlour in the early 1920's. There are comfortable seats, pleasant conversation, and old music.

Over the course of the past several weeks I have been playing songs from specific years, starting in 1905, and progressing forward. Last week was 1911. This week we get to enjoy three tunes from 1912.

"Mazurka Migliavacca" is a traditional piece often associated with Italian folk music and dance. While the Mazurka form itself originates from Poland, the style has found a home in various cultures, adapting to local musical aesthetics. "Mazurka Migliavacca" captures the essence of communal celebration and emotional expressiveness, often inspiring both musicians and dancers to engage in a dynamic interplay of rhythm and melody. The tune serves as an excellent representation of the blend of tradition and locality, showcasing how a music form can transcend its original borders to become an integral part of another culture's artistic expression.

This particular song was recorded on the Columbia Record label as part of their "Foreign Series" collection. I chose this song in particular because of the Ocarina solo. An ocarina! How awesome is that.

This next song was also chosen by design. "Élégie" is a hauntingly beautiful composition by French composer Jules Massenet, initially written for piano and later orchestrated and adapted for various instruments and voice. Often characterized as a "song of mourning," the piece taps into deep wells of emotion, channeling a sense of loss and longing that is universally relatable. The melody flows like a sorrowful river, and its minor tonality evokes a sense of melancholy and introspection. The piece is often performed at solemn occasions and has been widely embraced for its ability to capture the complex landscape of human grief and nostalgia. Through its simple yet deeply resonant themes, "Élégie" remains a timeless expression of sorrow, resonating with audiences who find comfort and catharsis in its bittersweet strains. My dog has passed on very recently, and this particular song strikes home.

The third song of the trio is one I had promised @qwerrie . This is another version of Tales of Hoffman - Barcarolle, by the Victor Concert Orchestra.

Three Tune Tuesday (TTT) is initiated by @ablaze.

These songs are all old pre-1923 78rpm records from my collection, played on my antique phonographs and recorded with a well placed microphone. Like what you hear? Come listen!

I am sorry for the late check and reply, left this page opened for a day, had no time.
But it was worth waiting, to listen to without all the rest duties of the day mixed in.
Mazurka is amazing, with or without Ocarina, exactly the stuff I like. Barcarolla I liked less.
Thank you a lot for sharing, and for the mention (I wish your upload will get more likes on YT!)
