Some Crappy Camera Floppy Photos

(note: I started writing this one week ago, then my adult ADD got the better of me)

My mom has been visiting this past week. This has been time consuming, but has also afforded me the opportunity to visit a place or two that I otherwise would not have (think touristy things).

Last week we went down to Havre de Grace, MD. I've been to Havre de Grace before, but they have usually been quick trips, in and out. This time we got to relax and visit at a more leisurely pace. Of course I took some cameras with me: my phone (as always) as well as a Minolta XD film camera (still with film in it) and a Sony Mavica FD75.

I've written about the Sony Mavica before (alas, too lazy to search down the post), but the tl/dr of it is that it is a 2001 digital camera from Sony with a small .3inch sensor which takes a 640x480 size picture (standard) which it stores on a floppy disk.

Yes. A floppy disk.

It's awesome. #crappycameraphotos are it's thing. This beastie needs a lot of light to be able to provide a decent photo. Luckily it was a bright, bright sunshiny day and there was ample light to be had. Normally taking pictures in the middle of the day results in harsh light. With this camera, it's almost a necessity.

Here was the first photo I took with it. Of course it's a fire hydrant. It's cute.

(second note: more photos, less text, so I can finally publish the post)

This was outside the first antique store we went to. I like this, and wish I could have bought it and brought it home. It would have fit the aesthetic of my back yard.

Lighthouse on the Bay. On the weekends (we weren't there on the weekend) the lighthouse is opened by docents for climbing to the top. I would like to do that one day.

You know, for a shitty camera that does 640x480 with a barely-light-sensitive-sensor, this camera churns out decent photos in a very well lit situation.

(final note: poor conclusion, but finally publishing)

The charm of the old digital cameras... If the sensor isn't toasted, they keep doing their cute stuff :)

Your old camera provides a hint of nostalgia in the photos. That has to be of some value in this world convulsed by high definition and AI. Loved them 😌

My sister is a dermatologist and I work for her on weekends; when we review photos, we are amazed to see that some of the photos that she made with her Sony Mavica twenty years ago are even better than the ones she makes today: detail and resolution, all on a floppy disk.
